Wow. Major accomplishment to get it running after sitting 2.5 years, and no comment.

Hopefully get the hoses this weekend and get it to the point of idling.

Sorry if I sounded harsh. I\'m just excited.

This weekends progress:

We got the motor running better today. All the hoses are on. Then we heard it knocking, pulled the valve covers and pulled out the push rods, and found this:

Thats not a big problem, is it?

Ordering new set of push rods this week.

Motor came with the CJ7 when I bought it. I only ran it real quick to hear it run, then I started stripping the frame. I can\'t remember the knock from before.

I thought about rebuilding it, but i didn\'t want to go over my head, and since I heard it run, I thought it would be fine for now and worry about putting money in other places first.

I got all the push rods on order. $1.50 ea. so its a no brainer to replace them all. That\'ll be next weekends project.

Thanks for the replies!

fluids and gaskets can get annoying, i learned alot with my SBC build with it apart and together 3-4 times before i was happy.

good luck!

Well, the push rods weren\'t the only thing bad...

Took out the lifter where the long push rod was, and it was worn so bad on the bottom it blew a hole through it. Bought a new lifter and tried that.

We managed to get it back together and all the valves moved. Started it back up and loud knocking started.

Long story short, 2 piston skirts broke off, no bearing on 2 piston rods. Conclusion - motor blown.

But, same day, my buddy\'s cousin has a 79 wagoneer. Motor purrs like a kitten. So I\'m picking it up for the motor and possibly selling the rest with my blown motor.

Motor comes out today.

To all the mothers, Happy Mothers Day!

Well, as soon as I get the Wagoneer up to the garage and get the motor out, the Wagoneer will be up for sale. I will get pics when I can.

Both Metro bumpers were installed today. Trying to get more done while waiting on the motor.

Motor is almost ready to go back in. Just have to get the old manifolds off. Hopefully running again this weekend.

Motor is in. We almost had it running, then something electrical happened. While cranking it over, no spark. In the run position, it\'ll spark, but since the starter is not engaged it can\'t turn over and start.

Found out it was the distributer.

This project won\'t stop fighting me!

Finally got it running last night. Ran for 5 minutes. Then BOOM.

Distributor gear failed. Now I have to tear down the front, get the pieces out, buy a new gear and try again.

06-03-09
Front of the motor torn down to the timing cover.
New cam gear and dizzy gear ordered from quadratec, along with a full set of gaskets for the front. Soon as they are in hopefully get it back together.

I\'ll keep you guys posted.
