Mike had to buy some drive flanges from him on Saturday at Rausch. Good thing he was there with his trailer.

what happened?

The short answer is that we wheeled and mikemike broke, then we wheeled some more and mikemike broke, then we wheeled some more and mikemike broke.

In summary, it was definitely mikemike\'s day...

Thanks for taking the black cloud for the rest of us mikemike!

i suppose its about time to give the story of the little miss hap that happened a few weeks ago.  Mike and I were geared up with helmets and braces doing some hot laps around a moto cross track we got invited to.  the goal was to get comfortable driving with neck braces as the next race required them while RCQ did not.  i had lost an alternator belt earlier in the day doing some rec wheeling which we had repaired.  im guessing the alternator had seized up from some heavy water soaking the day before, but didnt much matter...

we came out of a turn on the last long straight hard into it and i felt the lost of steering, the buggy had thrown the power steering belt.  the hydraulics locked up, and we slide all fours locked up into a tree that didnt move non the less.

the damage:

two patachable holes in driver front tire
rim badly bent and torn
highsteer arm ripped off knuckle
kingpin bushings crushed / separated Knuckle / parts lost
lower driverside link candy caned
upper driver link bent, johnny joint threads sheared
upper passenger johnny joint bent
passenger front air shock shaft bent
both front upper shock mount tabs tweaked
oil fiter crushed
exhaust crushed
transmission cracked in half in two places
lower link chassis mounts bent and crushed tube
both motor mounts tweaked, cracked tube

Mike and i figure we hit the tree going about 25-30mph which didnt really seem all that hard, until we got out and saw the damage.  After we hit, and the smoke poured we both unbelted, jumped out, saw the trans and oil pan engulfed in fire, pulled the extinquishers and gave it a couple shots to put it out.

as of tonight, one link re-fabricated out of 2x2x.25\" square tube, spare joints replaced to get it rolling.  motor and trans pulled, front subframe cut off, new tube twice as thick cut and fit, new gusseted and trused mounts in the works.  the plan is to cut out and replace everything that failed with something bigger, better, and stronger.  new shock shaft on order, along with some air bumps, and working on getting trans guts swapped to a new case if possible.
