Looking at 1990 YJ
« on: May 25, 2008, 12:05:36 PM »
So I am looking at buying a 1990 YJ with a 6 cylinder engine. It probably is going to need some engine and brake work since it hasn\'t been driven in a few years. Attached are a couple pictures of it. It has a decent amount of rust on it although I am sure anything from 1990 up here will have rust. It comes with a hard top, soft top, fog lights, and an extra set of rims. The interior looks to be in really good shape though. What do you think a good price of this is?

Thanks everyone!!!

Here are some pictures,

depends on what the floorpans and frame look like IMO.  If the interior is decent and the floors and frame are solid I\'d say a grand to maybe 1500 if it didn\'t need much work.  I hate rust and holes, but the hard top and wheels and lights are all quite nice and it looks like everything but the fenders and tub are still solid.  Look for rust around the windshield too.

caveat: don\'t listen to me.  I don\'t do the Jeep Thing :)

im hoping to use it as both wheeling and daily driver...i go to school in Potsdam so I need 4 wheel drive. The only thing that really scares me is that is hasn\'t been driven in 3 or 4 years so I know there are going to be issues. It is only a grand though

i know the whole thing is beggars can\'t be choosers but i cant stand cherokees haha. i really hope this jeep works out tho (although I cant stand square headlights!). if/when i get it could i show it to someone and tell them the minimum i would put in to make it trail worthy. if I dont get it then i guess its back to the classifieds :(

Here\'s an apparently solid XJ for $800.  How hard can you hate for $800?

I will look at that if the YJ doesn\'t work out though. What do you think of the YJ and what do you think it needs? I am completely clueless on all of this!!!

I\'d be worried about self-proclaimed \"clueless\" buying a cheap Jeep that\'s been sitting....

Where is it?  Maybe someone more clued would be close enough to have time to give it a once-over?

No way to know what it needs without seeing it, or seeing LOTS more than 2 pictures of the top side.

A good friend of the family is a mechanic so he is going to give it a look over when I bring it down. However, he always only points out negatives and never thinks a vehicle is good enough. I really appreciate everybody\'s advice on this though. I now see why I need to join the mudnuts.
