Jack it up, rotate one tire forward, if the other side tire rotates backwards you have an open carrier, if it rotates the same direction you have an LSD.

couldnt i just take the LSD back out when/ if i put a locker in?

im not sure that i WANT a locker in the rear. i drive 70 miles a day. i think that an auto locker in the rear would be a pain in the ass. my though was to have a LSD rear and someday an aussie up front. that way the front will only lock when im in 4x4

you need an open carrier to put a lunchbox locker in.  that would mean swapping carriers to put in an Aussie or similar if you had a limited slip.  Ask Mike Wolf about that sometime....  Swapping carriers means doing a gear setup.

a locker in the front in the winter can get hairy if you use 4x4 on the street, but with that said I\'d still rather have a front only if I was going to have just one.

LSD is a lot harder to put in. And more expensive. You need to reset the hears when you do a lsd.

A locker will be fine on the road, you just need to know how to drive with one.  Many people here drive with them on the roads and have no issues.

You can do it Jake.

Besides, if you put the Aussie or Lock-Right in and don\'t like it, you can take it back out.  Can\'t get any simpler than that.

Ryan you make a good point that people drive with them everyday.
I never thought about it but my camaro has a locked rear and i dont even notice it when i drive it.
i guess i though that with the jeep the road mannors would be different.

thanks for everyones input. lockers are the way to go and i miss the convience of pushing a buttom to get them to lock like in my rubicon. but i have to remember that my XJ is a \"low budget\" toy...compared to the camaro.
