My cool transfer case
« on: October 28, 2008, 02:01:54 PM »
I could not keep rear output seals in my tcase.  Every time I changed the fluid (every trip or two) I\'d get to drain about 1 cup of metal shavings.

Here\'s how much stuff didn\'t come out of the drain hole, and how stretched the chain was getting (look at the shift fork).

The cause of all the metal bits is that the bushings on the shift forks were all gone.  They probably got hot and stretched/melted/broke/fell off due to low fluid levels.

No blue bearings or chipped teeth though.  As Smike would say, \"Neat!\"

sorry the picture links are broken, they are something the board software is doing on its own and screwing up.  I\'ve seen the same thing in other posted pictures.  I had to work around it by posting the text links to the large images.
