xj with no spark?

I have a 87 xj with the straight 6. it was not running when i bought it. i use to be able to at least get it to start with gas to the intake, but now it has no spark. I was told to change the cps, but now i have no spark at all. i have replaced the coil and the module under it, the distributer cap rotor, plug wires. im getting fustrated and am looking for some ideas.

have you replaced the CPS?

Not sure if an \'87 would have one but if it does check the ASD relay in the PDC.

\'87 is older than I\'m used to dealing with, and I\'m used to V6s and V8s, but what the newer Mopar motors need to give you spark is signals from cam and crank position sensors, a good automatic shutdown relay and of course a good ECU, coil and distributor.

no, we have not changed the cps yet, we were getting a week spark when we first got the xj but now no spark at all. the 87 we have does have a cps on the bellhousing, i will try that next.

If it\'s the CPS it should either be good spark or no spark.  with weak spark I\'d be looking at the coil, cap, rotor and wires - but it looks like you\'ve been down that whole road already.

can anyone tell me a easy eay to get the cps out?

I\'ve only had mine pull out when I had the transmission off the block and it just sort of falls out of the bellhousing then.  I think it just pulls out, but unless you have a replacement already I would not bank on that.
