Another Field & Forest trip logged in the books.
sMike and I drove in the thick of that Friday storm nearly the whole way, eventually outran it, and then got hit by it again while we were there. Plugged and then ended up changing a trailer tire too. Didn't think we would ever dry out.
With rain comes wet dirt, also know as mud. Mud and rocks make for tough going. F&F is a challenge when dry and wet steps things up a couple of brutal notches. Within 10 minutes of the first trail, called Boulderdash (F&F rated "black"), we were suffering winching, a broken TJ driveshaft (again), and a broken D60 RCV 300M axle shaft. Tough going.
Limped the rigs back to camp, fixed the hungry, sat and commiserated for a bit, and the unbroken set out for Easy Street (F&F rated "red"). While likely not the smartest thing, all made it through without more broken-ness, although winches were used again. We bailed at the Trail 1 intersection because it was BBQ time.
After another deluge during the night, we woke to a bright, sunny, and warm morning. sMike and I headed out early and had an uneventful drive home other than some crazy holiday weekend traffic.
