Chrysler LeBaron or New Yorker Hood vents
« on: March 22, 2012, 08:39:42 AM »
Heat soak has been plaguing my XJ recently and I want to put some vents in the hood to help hot air escape. The best looking vents I've seen in an XJ come from an 80s Chrysler LeBaron or New Yorker Turbo. There aren't a whole lot of pick and pulls out near me, and I haven't had any luck seeing any on Ebay, so I was hoping that if anyone goes to one, they could keep an eye out for a set for me.

These are what I'm looking for.

I don't know what other cause it could be. I'm not having a problem with cooling while its running. But after I've been running it for a while and shutting it down, if I start it up after only a few minutes it stutters for about 30 seconds to a minute and then smooths out. If I do the same thing while also popping the hood (thus giving the hot air a place to rise out of) while its parked, it doesn't stutter at all and runs fine. I don't get any CEL nor do any codes pop up. I don't really know what else it could be.

does it kick and stumble when trying to hot restart? or does it start right up and stumble?

opening or closing the hood will not effect this at all unless you are letting the engine cool for significant amount of time.

It starts right up and stumbles a bit. From what I've read about heat soak, the hot air just sits in the top of the engine bay and causes the fuel in the injectors to vaporize. Once there is a steady stream of liquid fuel running through it, it runs fine.

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/rough-idle-after-hot-start-cel-996014/   The only difference with this guy is that he's getting a CEL, I don't know if that's because he has a 2000 or if it's just a fluke. Next time we get a hot day I'm gonna bring my diagnostic tool with me and leave it hooked up to monitor temperature more closely than just the gauge in the dash and see if it throws up any codes while I'm driving.

Thanks Spencer. I also found a guy selling a set on Cherokee Forum that I messaged Friday but haven't heard from him. Also checked M and M U Pull in Buffalo yesterday, called Friday to see if they had anything and the guy said he had 1 New Yorker Turbo but when I got there he said he crushed it earlier that morning -_-

I've seen the Genright ones and the RunCool Louvers, but I prefer the Lebaron ones simply as an aesthetic choice. They have a really nice clean, almost factory look on XJs.
