Big mess
« on: November 05, 2011, 03:48:16 PM »
Hopefully I\'m not the only one who has done this but...
I was changing my oil today and got the new filter and oil in, I started the jeep and head a rubber pop sound. I walk around to the front of the engine and saw oil spewing everywhere. Apparently the old filter left the rubber o ring on the engine, I didn\'t notice and put the new filter over the top of it. The unsupported ring couldn\'t handle the pressure and popped out spewing oil everywhere.

Thought I did that once but ended up being a stuck relief valve in my oil pump.  Still made a big mess...

Not exactly the same, but the first time I ever did brakes, I left the old copper washer on the flex line. They don\'t do so well double stacked either.

I heard a story while I was at home about a flunkie getting distracted and ignoring the gauge on the feeder, he filled the motor to the top...  my buddy was the supervisor at the quick lube at the time.  it overflowed so they caught it and drained it...

That\'s kinda funny Mike, one of my first jobs when I was 16 was at a Jiffy Lube.

One of the new techs put 16 quarts in a Geo Metro. Only stopped yapping when the pit guy yelled up at him that oil was running down all over the motor. Filled it completely up until it was coming out of the oil filler.

My uncle also ended up loosing the rear axle in his brand new chevy conversion van half way to Vegas because they forgot to screw the check plug back in. TO make matters worse he was towing his trailer.

I HATE changing oil. Especially diesels. But it\'s only once in a blue moon I will take any of my stuff anywhere.
