88 yj manual transmission question

Working on a 88 yj with ba-10 5 speed. The trans in it is bad I got another trans with the jeep and want to know if there is a way to test if the tranny will shift through the gears smoothly? Don\'t want to wast my time installing a bad tranny. If there is anybody familiar with these trannys any info would be great!

you have to go to france to find sombody who will work on thoes trannys..

swap it out
