need some xj info please

Problem 98 xj blown motor great body.........now.............
96 xj 4.0 HO 60k body...um..what body U see where I\'m going...

So will 96 go into 98 with out any major issues?  

ANY help on this would be great, this is a DD so it has to pass inspection I am capable of doing anything that has to be done just like to know if its worth the time ( this motor runs great) or just buy a junk yard motor.

should be just plug and play, its all the same engine 91\"-99\",correct me if im wrong but with the emissions inspection you cant put a older engine in a newer vehicle,but like i said i may be wrong it may just be a cali thing
if for some reason you dont do this let me know i may be in the market for a engine

i think there are some sensor type differences starting in 97, looking at smike\'s (96) vs mine (97)
not sure if thats stuff you can just swap or what

Are you sure Smike\'s is a 96? I thought it was OBD-I.  96 is the first year of OBD-II, and I\'d expect sensor differences between those breaks.

I thought 96 was federally mandated to be obd-ii, and for most makes and models is the first year of II...

Would the 98\'s computer work with the 96 motor? how different are the motors ,as long as it has all the emissions stuff on it?

knowing the wonder its prolly a \'95.96\' was 1st year of obd2

it will probably work, but there might be some parts needed to be changed (sensors & such) (i think)

Oh yea 96 was the first year for obd 2. I think I will rebuild the 98 and beef it up a notch or 2, it only has a spun bearing.

your best bet is to only use the long block and swap over intake etc...
run the 98 everything except the block.

Thanks rejeep I was thinking that might be the best way to go for just a little extra work.I\'m not too familiar with the xj\'s just making sure they didn\'t do any funky crap in that 2 years.Now how do I want to rebuild the 98 4.0 hmmmmmmmmm...
