Greetings from out West.
« on: March 04, 2011, 03:31:10 AM »
Hey there Guys and Gals.

Josh Snyder here looking for some input from the locals.  Looks like my wife and I may be relocating to the Rochester area in the near future.  We currently reside in the California high desert and the Jeep is set up for crawling the rocks.

So I want some input on vehicle laws, and how you guys are set up for local trails.  Here is some thing I found for NY laws.  Does this seem correct?   http://www.liftlaws.com/new_york_lift_laws.htm

The way the Jeep sits, factory power train, 35\" MTR\'s, Nth Degree 6\" lift.

Thanks for any input you all might have.

Welcome

A lot of us head to rausch creek PA to get to rocks

Not sure on lift laws, I got a trailer queen.  I\'ve not heard any problems around here from other member\'s though.

I have a pretty similar setup to yours and have never been bothered. Kinda surprising really, I never purchased the blinker fix module when I put LED\'s up front. I figured I\'d be pulled over in a heartbeat for a \"bad light.\" On a side note, how do you like your lift? I was debating between a couple different kits and went a different direction, but really like the clearance that tuck gets.

NY is pretty lenient as far as lift laws go.  I drive my Dakota on the street with 42s sticking 6\" past the body and it\'s as wrinkled as most California Toyotas get. I worry a bit, but no issues.... and it meets the letter of most of the laws as far as bumper height, and we have no tire coverage or mudflap laws on light trucks/jeeps.

You\'re looking at 175-250 miles from Rochester to get decent rocks though.

Thanks for the input guys.  That was the way that lift law site was spelling it out, but I really had a hard time believing it.

As far as the Nth degree lift.  It is amazing, never thought that a swb Jeep with a 6\" lift and 35\" tires could handle so well on the street.  Never let me down when I needed it to flex either.

I have not had any problems with the poe-poe, but every one seems to have a story around here.  My tires are not tucked under the Poison Spyder tube fenders, and I dont run mud flaps.  Good to know that wont be an issue back there.

So I guess I am going to miss my 45 min trip to the rocks in the desert or the hour trip to the mountains.  I think when I did a mapquest checking out Rausch it was about 4.5 hrs from Rochester.  Never thought I would miss the desert when I leave.  Where are the rocks that are 175-250 miles away from you guys?

There\'s a private spot in Albany that I go to through another club, Every once in a while there\'s an open event there. There are cart roads and such in MA, CT and NH that some of us have hit, and Rausch is at the ~250mi mark.

Some of us are working on destinations in the great white north too.  None of the above are anything like the dry rocks of the desert though.  Much as I hate mud it\'s kind of a fact of life, it gets between the rocks....

52 hrs from Ontario, Ca to Victor, Ny.  Hilight of the trip was having the rear drive shaft fail just after crossing into Mo. around 2:30pm on a Saturday.  Apparently nothing is open after noon so the poor Jeep was pushed for 1,100 miles in front wheel drive.  Drive shaft has been repaired and the Jeep is ready for some love after all that abuse.  Look forward to meeting you guys some time soon once we get settled.

Support ball in the double cardon failed after just over a year with correct pinion angle on a fixed yoke Rubicon transfer case.  Baffled me due to the first shaft was good for 5yrs.

It is now official, Jeep has been inspected, insured, registered and licensed.

Its been there from day one.

Don't know if the runny spray on bed coating will do any thing under there.

Now the Jeep will fit in with the rest of them.
