I bought one of my twin stick kits from advance adapters, it came with new shift rails. But I\'m not sure why it was necessary, my $99.00 kit from quadratec was a 30 min bolt on with no shift rail mods. Working great for 3 years.

I also built a custom set of sticks for Cora\'s CJ with a Dana 300, never touched the shift rails. Works great.

Yeah but you don\'t get front wheel drive only until you do the detent mod Eric.  I haven\'t found a decent, clear and direct to the point writeup for the mod yet.
It\'ll probably be spring before I get around to doing mine although I\'m really interested to see how front wheel drive works on the snowy road.

I have front-wheel only, high and low, also rear-wheel only high and low and the regular four wheel high and low. We made these custom twin sticks in about a half an hour. I do front digs all the time on the trails to get around tight corners or to move latterly on a ledge.

That SHOULD require shift rail mods just as a 205 does.... Assuming things aren\'t worn out. I thought the 300 had a 2-pill interlock setup like the 205, but I don\'t really know 300s at all, which is why I didn\'t say anything sooner.

I don\'t even know what a detent mod is. There are two rails that come out of the 300, one for front wheel, one for rear wheel. We just connected a stick to each. The stock configuration has both rails bolted together. This is exactly how the Quadratec kit works.

That goes along with everything I have read about the 300.  I\'ve been saying detent but interlock is the factory correct term.

The purpose of the interlock is to stop the stock setup from going into one hi and one low gate at the same time. There are what amounts to freeze plugs on the shift rail housing that get popped out, once the shift rails are removed the interlock pill and springs will slide out. From what I\'ve seen the holes formerly filled by the freeze plugs can be threaded and filled with pipe plugs.

I have the same results with all three Dana 300\'s i have installed twin sticks on. Front wheel drive only with no mods to the rails.

I can shift either front or rear in and out of low range at any time i desire. only when both are in nuetral will the case shift into high range or vice versa.

Now it may be possible to jam one of the sticks into the opposite range. But Ive never tried very hard to attempt it assuming the results would be catastrophic. Ive been running a twin sticked Dana 300 for 4 years with not one single issue.
My CJ buggy for 3 and Cora has been whipping front digs for the past 2 . NO  modifications to any of them.

Gotta be worn out.

I have no interlock pills in my 205. I grab FH/RL to dig around corners since I don\'t have a good ebrake. It doesn\'t bind anything internally, just makes the front and rear outpust spin at different speeds.

Once again, I\'d assume the 205 and 300 are very similar.

I thought the debate was that without shift-rail mods, the case cannot be put in to front low range only?

I cannot shift FH/RL. the case will not physically allow it.
And like I said, I havent forced the issue.

I find it hard to believe that all three of my cases are worn. Technically four because about 6 months ago I swapped one out of my Street CJ to try and solve a mysterious  vibration. (drive shaft)

Quoted text from NOVAK website (second result when google searches Dana 300 twin stick)

Procedural Requirements
The TX300 kit uses the factory shift rails within your Dana 300. Installation does not require disassembly, however, if removing the interlock pins for fully independant axle operation, disassembly of the Dana 300 will be required.

To do a front dig, I put the front in gear, rear out of gear, hit the gas while standing on the brakes. Works like a champ.

Advance adapters dana 300 twin stick kit

this is the kit i bought from advance adapters, it came with new modified shift rails. Its still sitting on my bench.

but what is odd is that no where on thier product description does it state that you can shift FH/RL or vice versa

300s must be different than 205s, then. To do FL/RN the rear rail needs a detent mod in a 205. Otherwise it would not be able to shift reliably and correctly with a single shifter.  Stock 205 shifters confuse me. It had to be a truly twisted mind that dreamed that system up.
