1974 Land Rover SIII 109\"
« on: June 01, 2010, 08:35:22 AM »
Not so much a build thread, more or less a maintenance and slow rolling restoration.

Picked this sucker up for my 30th birthday.  It’s a 1974 Land Rover series III RHD..
2.25L petrol engine (slow as anything)
The day I got it I already installed a PTO overdrive unit to help the engine @ cruising speeds.
It needed some wiring help when I got it, but as of right now everything works, lights gages, etc.

I will be shooting to make this a bit more comfortable over the next few weeks, mats, dynamat, stereo..  And possibly over the winter I will address some of the issues with the driver sides door frames.  But it’s a good, solid, drivable truck…  I’m not fixing what’s not broken..

So just to keep an up to date tab of things I have done, aside from keeping receipts….

I already have installed the Roverdrive, I can no cruise on the HWY at a blistering 60 MPH..
I replaced various switches and relays, English wiring just plain SUCKS…
Did the rear output seal on the trasnferbox this weekend.. 1 of the three leaks SOLVED!!
Got a stereo installed.. I will post up pictures of that, way cool in this old truck..
Sound deadening and rubber floor system are next, aside from the gearbox leak..

So just a quick update on how this has been going...

I installed a 100 lb rubber acoustic Mat system fom overseas to reduce noise, heat, and generally clean up thenlook of the interior.

I also bit the bullet and installed a set of rocky mountain parabolic springs with new hyd shocks.

Started replacing some of the doors due to the galonic corrosion factor and am looking to pain it in a couple months...

Will post pics of all the above.... But pig project working on right now is I am swapping out the gearbox and transfer box for a recon unit from Ascroft in the UK...  My old one has been leaking like a well land rover and is showing signs of loosing 1st and 2nd gear syncros.
Once that gets under way I will have pictures posted for certain...
