American Racing Rims
« on: January 12, 2010, 10:12:21 AM »
Hi all, I recently bought some lightly used 31\" MT Baja Claws on 15\" American Racing rims.  They came off of a YJ I believe.  I thought I could easily throw them on my \'67 CJ5, but I\'ve got two problems: 1. the locking hubs on the front axle don\'t fit though the center of the rims and 2. despite both being 5 lug, the lug spacing on the rim doesn\'t quite match the spacing on the axle.

Are there spacers and adapters that I need to look for, or is it best just to pull off these tires and put them on my current stock rims (also 15\")?

Thanks

yj is 5x4.5 i think and CJ is 5x5.5    you can get adaptor spacers probably a set of four for 140$ shipped off ebay.

most people with narrow track CJ\'s tend to go with a shallow spaced wheel or run 2\" wheel spacers to widen up the stance.

as for the front hub clearance, that is probably what will kill it.

id look for some other wheels.

actually they might not make large to small just small to large bore, so thats probably an issue too.  Crus i think has a set to run 5.5 on 4.5 lug axles paul borrowed for a while.

Use the tires and switch rims.  Sell the \'new\' ones.

Thanks for the input, guys.  ollllllo, i definitely want black rims, so your black spokes are tempting.  How clean are they?  My stock rims are white and rusted and I was going to clean them up and prime/paint them black.

hey the black rims are more beat up then i remember.
so if you want them for a daily driver id reccomend the white ones.
they are wider and like new. just some sand paper and black spray paint and they will be sweet.

i have 4 of them,

Thanks, ollllllo.  I\'m going to stick with my stock whites.  I\'m committed to recycling as much of this thing as possible.  I appreciate everyone\'s input.
