Question from first time Jeep Owner
« on: March 03, 2009, 08:24:49 AM »
HI, I was wondering if those who already own Jeeps might help me with a question. I have the chance to buy a 98 Jeep Sahara for around $6600. The Jeep is in great shape, no leaks, no rust of any kind, clean interior, 4.0 6 cyl. 5 speed with almost 93K on it. Pretty much all stock with a soft top. I would be using this to drive approx 50 miles a day to and from work plus I\'d like to get into some off roading with it. does anyone have experience with this Jeep at all? Do you think its a good deal and would make a reliable daily driver? Thank you for any help you can give me I have always wanted to own a Jeep:) If you would like to email me directly my email is empireroar@aol.com.

probably the best thing to do would be ask the seller if you could take it to a mechanic to have it looked over before buying it.  I would recommend Ryan, a fellow board member and Jeep repair specialist http://www.bluedogjeep.com

I sure will, I can\'t wait to buy one. Now I just have to find one I can afford that isn\'t a rust bucket or falling apart :)

It sounds like a good deal to me but you could save some money and buy a TJ that already has some modifications.

This would be my choice

This one is more practical

the first one is a CJ, i would NOT reccomend one of those if your driving it every day

the  second one is a YJ, leaf springs front and rear...i drove one with an 8\" lift for a while...then i sold it. buy something with fuel injection. stick with a TJ like your looking at.

let me know if you dont buy that one tonight and ill get one for you

I\'d agree with Jake.  Stick with something newer and not modified much.  It should be reliable and \"standardized\" to repair.  50 miles a day will take it\'s toll.  If you want to wheel it too, add a set of new mud or all terrain tires that will fit without any modification (31s on a TJ).  When you are ready, step into something more complex.

I was looking at a 2001 Jeep Wrangler at Pioneer Sales in Avon. Told them I was coming in today to look at it, when I got there they told me it went out to auction last night :(  So I am still in the market :)

the 2.5L IS FUEL INJECTED

leaf springs are totally fine, 8\" of lift is kinda scary no wonder you wouldn\'t recommend leaf springs.

Try to find something that has a lift and has bigger tires, you will save $$$$
