CB radio alternatives
« on: April 14, 2015, 10:02:47 AM »
I've been mulling this over for some time...

Since CB radios are so unreliable in so many ways, I want to recommend that folks consider the purchase of an FRS radio (or two) for communication purposes.  Even in portable form, they have great range, clear transmission and reception, far more channel selections, and are race radio compatible.  The only downside that I see is that there is no easy or inexpensive method of permanent installation.

I'm also aware that some members are HAM radio operators.  That involves licensing but I believe they are also compatible to FRS frequencies.

Maybe I'm just tired of fighting with a CB?

Thoughts?

Ditto.
Then again, I use mine for trucker eavesdropping more than I wheel, so I'm calling it a win.
