Long Time jeep owner wanting to get into a club
« on: January 20, 2012, 02:53:46 PM »
Hi,

My names Anthony and I love my TJ.  I am interested in joining a 4x4 club, and i understand this is the place to be.  I am a long time jeep owner and am ready to do some major upgrades e.g 2.5l to 4.0 swap / ax-5 to ax-15 swap.  I already have my ford 8.8 purchased, just waiting to install because i am no a mechanic.... I am a body / electrical guy....

Some questions

#1) What are the steps to become a member?
#2) with my military deployment this summer, will this be an issue joining ??

thanks!

this is my TJ

Welcome!  sounds like you have quite a plan for your TJ.

All you need to do to become a member is show up to a meeting and pay the $40 dues.  Our meetings are the last Tuesday of the month, but since we abruptly lost our meeting place at Gander Mt. we are still trying to find a place so this months meeting location is not set.  Your deployment will not be an issue at all.

Thanks,

I do have some plans,

Im shopping around for an ax-15 as we speak, not sure if i should trust action auto, or go with  brand new tranny from quadratec for 1700$ shipped

Im going with the golen 4.6 stroker and he gave me a fair price for my swap,

and i am waiting for action auto to give me a call back to help me locate my ECU and harness.

also be aware that there are a lot of other hidden items that will need to be changed to do the motor swap, i.e. frame side motor mount, rear axle pinion angle(should not be an issue if you are swapping the 8.8 at the same time) those are what I can remember off the top of my head.  Make sure you do some reading as there are quite a few good write ups out there about this as it is not as simple as most people believe.  Who do you plan on doing the work?  Our club pres is currently doing custom fab work you might want to talk to him for some quotes.
