2000 Jeep TJ auto tranny needed or where to get rebuilt
« on: December 16, 2011, 01:52:23 PM »
My buddy is looking at buying a used auto tranny for his 2000 Jeep or getting his rebuilt.

Any words to the wise???  I haven\'t had the pleasure of doing any business with any of them in the area or getting a used one.

He uses it for plowing so he is going to need it sooner than later.

Thanks

Not many rebuild autos anymore.  It is a lost art.  If I was doing it, I\'d order a reman and swap it out...

Loco has a guy that Smike has used for his TH350s that he abuses and burns up.

Seems to be a good builder, this last one lasted for a good long time.

good point ryan, not sure Jim would be good with newer transmissions though.  the last one Jim built for me is going on a whole year of racing, and that was after 3 others i went though before i had him build one....

Behind a 4.0?

I have one from that \'99 Grand Cherokee that I could probably part with. The 4.0 is out of it and I\'m thinking it unlikely that another 4.0 will go in its place.... I think it has 140k on it though.  May be in the same state of close to needing a rebuild.

Not the same trans used in TJ vs. Cherokee or GC.  Can be done but not an easy bolt-in.  Cherokee and GC used an OD trans, TJ did not.  Nice upgrade though!

There is a GREAT tranny shop on RT 259 south of the village of Hilton, MICO Transmission.  Talk to Mike.    He does a fantastic job.  Well worth the money, plus a 12 month warranty.  He buys the rebuild kit and uses every part, not just what is needed(like some shops).  He did 97 Grand Cherokee auto for me $2000.
