Not 4x4 related but what in the world would this be for?

I found this hinge today. It is weird!
It\'s spring loaded, and folds on 2 planes.
It folds in half like a normal hinge, but ALSO folds 90 degrees from normal.
And it\'s got some bite! It will snap shut (springs) in either direction.

It has mounting holes only on one half.

I am racking my brain trying to figure out what its purpose it!

Wow that\'s weird, the lack of holes bugs me too. it would take a huge amount of force on the holed plane to over come the \"lock\" created by the folded up section.

GOT IT!
http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/241908538/1605_Butterfly_Hinge_Table_Hinge_.html

to hold up an extension leaf on a table. once its open the long way it damn near impossible to fold without pushing the 90 over a little.
