Hello everyone
« on: March 02, 2011, 09:55:50 AM »
Hey everyone, Id like to introduce myself. My name is Josh, I live in Attica and am the proud owner of a 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country. Ive owned its since \'07 when I bought it with 38k on the odometer and just started doing work to it. Right now its getting a superlift 4\" rise, 31\" Maxxis Bighorns, 15\" Pro Comp Black Steel Wheels, Magna Flow Cat Back Exhaust, and 4 KC daylighters. Eventually I plan on doing bumpers, rocker guards, roof rack, and taking care of the little bit rust and repaint (rescue green metallic, that funky green that the JKs came in). I plan on keeping this a dual purpose rig. I\'ve never really done much four wheeling before and have been dying to get into it since I\'ve landed a good job that can support the hobby. Mudding seems fun but my real interest is peaked at Trail driving and light crawling. Anyway, I plan on trying to attend the next meeting and cant wait to start meeting people and getting into the sport.

My Cherokee just got its first stage of work done. I\'m anxious to start hitting trails and seeing what shes capable of. Also, does anyone know where I could get a set of decent but cheap dif covers? My rear one is leaking a bit and I\'ve tried resealing it but it hasn\'t stopped it. I got a Chrysler 8.25 in the back (10 bolt) and a dana 30 up front (also 10 bolt).

Don\'t confuse your 8.25 or D30 with 10 bolts - there is a chevy axle found under the front of solid axle half tons that\'s very similar to a Dana 44 that really IS a \"10 bolt\" :-)

I\'m assuming your covers aren\'t rotted or beat up, if that\'s the case there\'s NO reason that they should not seal.  Get both sides spotlessly clean and use a standard gasket with gasket tack or RTV on it and don\'t overtighten.

I personally run no gasket and use The Right Stuff (very high end RTV) and it treats me well.

LubeLocker gaskets are really the cat\'s meow though.  Reusable, no RTV needed. Everyone who touches them seems to rave about them.  I should step up but haven\'t....

The reason I said 10 bolt, is the place that I get my parts from said that when he went to order ones for the 8.25, the only one he could find was one that had 12 bolts around it. I knew that Chevy has an axle that\'s actually called a 10 bolt. As far as they\'re condition, they aren\'t rolled but I think the rot is starting to go through just enough to make it leak a bit, especially around the rubber fill stopper. Im gonna try and take them apart again this weekend and get them as clean around the edges as possible and see how they come out. Gotta put it up on the lift anyway to swap out axle u-joints.

I\'m using the Riddler diff cover.  It is very stout and about $100.
