Syracuse Monster Jam - Help Needed! Thurs-Fri-Sat 3/10-12
« on: February 16, 2011, 06:07:54 PM »
I thought we\'d already had a thread started for this but I didn\'t find it, so we\'ll start fresh.

I just got off the phone with Matt Cowie, the show director.  He\'s pretty excited to work with us after hearing good words from Dave Alison and I\'m looking forward to showing him what a great job we can do at these shows!

This is going to be long, so here are the Cliff\'s Notes:
- Carrier Dome in Syracuse.
- Daytime setup Thursday and Friday, mainly safety holds and banners; 10-15 people.
- Pit Party and Show on Saturday.  Party 1430-1730. 2-4 rigs on the floor, probable parade lap/showoff during preshow. Extra hands for pit party and teardown would be nice.
- extra tickets available for weekday help.
- 2-3 hotel rooms should be able to be arranged.

First off, the venue is the Carrier Dome on the SU campus in Syracuse.
Google Maps Location

Two setup days, 9-5ish timeframe Thursday and Friday.  Show day there\'s a pit party from 14:30-17:30 and the show after that.

On the setup days the main business of club help is setting up safety holds and banners. This will be a bit different than we\'re used to, we\'re going full coverage from the dashers to the top of the holds with 20\' plastic.  It takes a few more hands than the cute little 4\' plastic we use at the War Memorial.  Apparently the seating curves and levels there aren\'t too cruel and it\'ll be a pretty manageable job.

Show day is whatever additional work is needed, load in for pit party, load out from pit party and prep for show, any needed help during the show, and teardown after.

Load in/out is a bit complicated at this pressurized dome venue with an airlock type loading dock.  There are two doors 60-70\' apart, and one has to stay shut or else you\'ve got a ~70mph wind tunnel running between the two.  This loading dock setup is going to make pit party loadout/preshow timing difficult.  Matt was honest with me here: if something needs to get cut from preshow it\'s going to be out parade lap, but we\'re going to be on the schedule.

Those who can only work on Saturday will mainly be used for pit party crowd control and after show teardown.  A full stadium is pretty big and easy to get lost in, which isn\'t a Good Thing when you\'re trying to get from A to B during the show!

As we all know many hands make light work, so the more we can get in for setup the better.  I\'ve already requested both days off and I plan to be there all three days.  I hope a few of the rest of you will join me!

This is a bigger show than any of us other than myself, Matt and Cora have worked.  There will be 14 monsters, including Dennis Anderson himself with the primary Digger truck - it\'s essentially the same lineup that World Finals in Vegas will be hosting.  It\'s going to be a lot of fun.

As far as parking goes, there is a lot 100-200yds from the Dome that will be reserved for the show, we should have no issues there regardless of what you\'re bringing.

Personally I\'d love to have a good mix of rigs - something streetable, something racy, something buggy, a Barnyard mini monster truck, etc.  Please weigh in on this....

Wish I could, but I got my kids that weekend.

That is going to be a awesome show and mike won\'t have to worry about the border crossing and getting searched... hehe

Just put my request in for time off. Should be good for all 3 days barring any major catastrophe at work.
