New to off-roading...
« on: May 18, 2009, 05:39:48 PM »
Found this local forum while doing some Internet searching.  Seems like a great place, as I\'ve been reading many of the posts.

I see there is a 101 event Sunday and I\'m really bummed because both my son and I work Sunday.  I currently have a 2000 Cherokee that is totally stock.  I\'ve kinda got the Wrangler bug, so I\'ve been searching for the right Wrangler to maybe replace the Cherokee.

Since I can\'t make Sunday, would the next best thing be to come to a meeting at Gander Mountain?

I\'m open to any and all advice, so please let me know.  So are there places local where you can get your feet wet with a stock XJ.

Welcome.

Wispering pines is the only place locally, but it is perfect to learn at with a stocker.

Wheel the XJ!!!

fedrusion, thanks for the reply.  So since I can\'t make the 24th, are there other times this group goes?  Does Whispering Pines run any newbie days?

Thanks!

any trip is a good place to start out at WP, check out the calendar and try to make it to this months meething!

and of course if there is a weekend you wana go, open a new thread and get a group going!  I set all the club event dates, but everyone is flexable and someone else always wants to go wheeling!

welcome.

I work about 10 minutes from WP and only live about 30 mins away. If you want to ride out sometime I can probably make time.

We usually have one run scheduled there a month usually the first or second weekend switching between sat\'s and sun\'s.

Welcome to the site!

Currently we only do one 4x4 101 per year but that\'s not set in stone, and as others have said, WP is a good place to go to start out.

I don\'t think he really needs a 101 event, so much as just having some other people to run with guide him and help out if needed.

we just call it \"101\" because its more of an introduction into wheeling. youd be suprised that alot of people dont know what 4x4 LOW range is for. we do the 101 as an open event for everyone and anyone to attend and if they like the sport and like our club and decide to become members then there are plenty more events that they can attend. as a club theres at LEAST one event every month all year long, during the non-snow months there can be as many as 4 events a month depending on your skill levels.

but, welcome to the site and I hope to see you around :)

Thanks again for all the replies and info.  Looking at pics from Sunday 101 and really bummed we weren\'t able to make it.  Also not able to attend the last meeting because it was our sons 21st birthday.

So certainly hoping to make the next one.  Bought my \"no hooks\" tow rope yesterday and looking for a full size rim to get my spare together.

i have a 15\" cherokee rim.

what size tires are you running? it has a brand new 31\" mudterrain on it right now.

and i think that troy (fedrusion) has a plain 15\" rim for sale too

It\'s totally stock at this point.  15 inch stock steel rims, 235 tires.
