Info:
Come one, Come all! Beginers welcome! Bring a friend!
This is an event geared towards the first-time or inexperienced 4x4 owner. We\'ll do a short presentation on what wheeling is, how to use your 4x4, safe and legal wheeling, who we are and what we do, and then spend some time on the trails showing you what we learned.

All we ask from attendees is to have a 4x4 that they don\'t mind getting dirty, and an open mind ready for some new experiences. We can\'t make any promises that there will be no damage whatsoever but we\'re going to do our best to clear the trails of hanging branches to avoid \"pinstriping\" and help you over obsticles to avoid any other possible damage.

From Mud Nuts members we are looking for trail leaders, spotters, help with registration and so forth. Contact Cora or myself with any questions.

*The pre-run and workers of the event must be club members. If you wish to help and are not a member yet, please contact GCracker for a membership form.

To attend, please post in this thread as an RSVP.

We look forward to meeting you!

We will have door prizes for all that register. We will also be running a contest to see who can bring in the most new faces. (details to follow at the next meeting)

I\'m down to help on the pre-run.  I\'d rather come to the event as a participant if I bring some people I\'ve got 3 right now I\'m trying to bring.  Jake, I\'ll get you a true number when we get closer.  The only issue is I think the run is Memorial Day Weekend, so it depends who\'s using the long weekend to get out of dodge.

are the trails at WP DD and stock friendly?
im less concerned with mud and ruts, but what about branches that can scratch paint..
I only ask because..

I would like my wife to get behind the wheel of her LR3.. but it better not get a  #$%&\'n scratch....

could she have a good time?
Title: Re: 2009 4x4 101 Class!
Post by: CoraC143 on March 27, 2009, 07:26:36 AM
The 4x4 101 is totally stock friendly : )

we have a club pre-run where we all go out and mark trails and cut branches that can pin-stripe. Now, we can\'t gaurantee anything, but we do our best. Trails are wide, so it\'s pretty much up to the driver to avoid driving into bushes on the side of the trail (not hard to do).

Your wife should totally come and check it out! We need more women on the trails!!

Her rig is my Tow rig... :)
but It might be nice to ride together...

Ill have to see if I can twist her arm into it..

Her first trail ride experience was not pleasent..

We were in CT on a 7-10 trail.. some of the rigs in our group shoud have taken the go arounds..
long story short.. but one of the D35 TJ ate up all the spider gears..  We had to limp it off the trail..
Took a couple hours and she wasnt happy in a rag top, 40 deg, and just sitting.. sitting... sitting.. and then me coming back to the Jeep smelling like gear oil..

I loved it.. she swore off the trail runs.

I\'d love to come, it would be my 1st time....but I don\'t even have a tow hitch.
Either way Id like to hear the 101 \"class\"
And I could be the event photographer....www.empirewestphoto.com

I have a few more questions...
Is this dog friendly? If we come up for sunday we want to camp somewhere near there, and will have the dog with us.

Are there any camp grounds near by?

Thanks guys!

dog in jeep should be fine.

also, as Mindless said, for the learners trail requirements would be nice, but not required.
that being said, tow points are strongly reccomended. if you have a tow hitch or tow hooks your good, if not and you cant get hooks by the event, thats ok too, we have some special tools for that.

AIR PRESSURE GUAGE REQUIRED!
*most will be airing down tires so this is an important tool to carry with you. theres a compresor there to air up after were done wheelin.

I do have some experience but I am sure I can still stand to learn some. Randy is a newb.

Thanks guys!\"

Man it\'s been to long for being so close.. Look forward to seeing you again..

On another note The turn out for this looks like it is going to be amazing.. Pretty sure If I remember correctly there was only a handful of people that attended last year... This will be a super duper event.. And o ya if I remeber I will not drive into any tree\'s on this trip, lol.

I am going to make my best effort to attend this event. I would be happy to help out if needed, I\'ve run whispering pines quite a few times. I may bring the truck out also. It all depends on how I\'m feeling after my surgery.

I\'ll be there plus passenger and can be part of the cleanup/pre-run too (solo) if you need me.

Son-in-law-to-be may also be attending as newbie with stock wrangler.

He\'ll respond on his own if daughter lets him out of NYC that weekend.

Just ran across this on another board that I subscribe to. I am making plans to attend but I am 3 hours away. Stock CJ-7 with MTs, should I think about dragging my Jeep up or will I be ok to drive up, wheel and drive back. Just don\'t want to end up stranded up there. No existing mechanical problems so I\'m not worried about the drive up, just the ability to drive back LOL.

Also I have a 10 year old who loves to go off road with her dad, ok to bring kids along?

we are a family club, kids are always welcome!

There isn\'t much to break your jeep on. Whispering Pines has a bunch of dirt hill climbs in the woods. some rocks in one area.

This event is designed for stock rigs and we will put you with a group of similar vehicles.

Thanks CoraC, that\'s exactly what I thought but didn\'t want to assume. I think I have my wife interested in coming too. 3 hours on the highway in an open top jeep might change her mind but by then it will be too late LOL.

Put me down as tentative as I still have to swap weekends with my ex-wife to bring my daughter.

Looking forward to meeting you guys and seeing some of the folks from WNYOR.

However I\'m going to be out on the Trail marking, I can\'t get free 2 days in a row.

Looks like it\'s going to be muddy....rain in the forecast for Friday and Saturday
http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/14489?from=36hr_topnav_undeclared

Is there a gas station right near there?

so, what happens if there\'s an obstacle someone doesn\'t feel comfortable trying? Is there a way around all obstacles? Or are there different trails that have less or more obstacles?
I\'m all for learning to wheel, but I do daily dive my jeep and want to make sure, that\'s all....

Assuming that this a \"pack your own grub\" sort of affair but just wanted to check. Are we so far out that there is nothing around or is there something near by.

I see my name on the RSVP list, I\'ll be bringing 2 riders with me. Still trying to figure out recovery points...
Title: Re: 2009 4x4 101 Class!
Post by: Wingman on May 15, 2009, 06:45:27 AM
Probably pay when we meet there. GTJake can confirm.

Nearest gas is about 4 miles away.  Stop before you get there and fill up.

There are plenty of bypasses for the difficult stuff.  The property consists of numerous loops from the ridgetop main trail.  There are only a couple of holes that swallow trucks.  We usually avoid those (recovery can be time consuming).  Nothing too radical.

I\'d pack a lunch to be sure but in the past, the property owner has provided burgers and hots for a minimal fee.  Not sure if that will be happening this trip.  The nearest fast food (McDonalds and a couple of pizza shops) is the same 4 miles away (V/Lyons or Sugarcreek at T-way exit).

Hope this helps (and doesn\'t step on toes).

Post by: GTJake on May 15, 2009, 08:32:44 AM
were going to pay when we get there.

BRING YOUR OWN FOOD/DRINKS.

and just like Wingman said, there are bypasses for anything you dont want to try. the trails we have marked for this event arent anything you will have to worry about. I just ask that you PLEASE bring a tire gauge so you can air down your tires after cora is done with the seminar.

My 94 explorer should be ready but I DO have a few ?\'s
1.Are your trail requirements.pdf  in effect here?  I would have to hurry find  cb radio.
and 2. is the $25 fee include the park fee? is not how much is that?

I come with basic tools and professional auto tech knowledge,  I would like to play my part in making everyones trip successful!

thanks all!

if you happen to look as this in before leaving and your going up 31 from barnes and noble, there is a bridge out right before getting to 14.   here is wingman\'s directions (not hard at all) from one of the last trips.

There is a main bridge closed just before Rt-14 in the V/Lyons. My suggestion is to go right at the closed bridge (Leach Rd) and follow that south over the RR tracks and around the bend. After the bend, turn left to continue on Leach Rd until you get to the first stop sign (Alloway Rd). Turn left and continue until you get to Rt-14 again. Go across Rt-14 and continue on Sohn Alloway Rd. The next right turn should be Thompson Station Rd. Take that to the end and turn right again onto PreEmption Rd and south to WP. It sounds a lot harder than it is.

so thats take a right on leach,
then left to stay on leach,
then left on alloway,
then straight over 14
then right on thompson station rd (comes up quick)
then a right and whipsering pines is on the right.
any problems call one of us
jake is 585-427-6328
me (paul) 585-507-7566
or anyone else on the list who\'s goign, see you all there

thanks a ton in advance for taking the time to send them to me!

oh, vids would be apriciated too. i want to show my wife as much footage as possible so i can get her interested in going too.

We had an AWESOME time, wasn\'t sure if Linda would like it but she did. The 6 hour round trip sort of sucked but it was way worth it for the trail action.

Thanks to everybody who was involved in putting this on, this was a great event and we plan to be back next year.

Linda took lots of pics, I\'ll post some on Photobucket and link them down to the site.

Thanks!
We would love to come again, it was a blast! But like I said in the blog   \"We had our cameras with us, but with both hands on the wheel and the uncertainty of what was around the next turn, we didn?t get to take many photos.\"

There was a ton of great shots we missed simply because, and I\'m not afraid to admit, we were a bit scared. The trails were not at all what we expected, I assumed beginner trails were I guess a bit more beginner. That being said, and now that I know what to expect, next time will be much much better!
We should have gotten out of the jeep at all the obstacles for photos. I may even come as a passenger next time if someone is willing to have me, and make a lot of stops on the trails.

Make sure to check back on our blog in a few days to see the rest of our weekend adventures, we made it to the montezuma refuge, saw bald eagles, then we made it to the bluffs up in sodus.  We have lots of great photos left to share!

maybe it would be a good idea to post some members with cameras at certain spots alon gthe trails to take shots of everyone that passes by so everyone has at least a few action shots of them doing something.  im not sayin they are in the same spot all day long, but at least till everyone passes it at least once would be cool. i would be willing to stand some where for an hour or 2 through out the corse of a day to take shots of everyone passing a spot.

Nope.   No one in our group got stuck that required more than a tug, and that was cause he couldn\'t get his CJ started.

I\'ll be posting my pics in a moment.

Here\'s a vid.

the others can be found in the \"More from\" section.  each one is listed under Whispering Pines and the date 5-24-09.
(there were 27 clips in all....so it will take a bit to get them all uploaded)

This one is great.  Connor\'s comment \"you need lockers\" was hilarious.

Choppus,
I can try to send it, but I haven\'t found it too successful sending an email with a 24Mb attachment.
Let me see if it works, or if there is another way.

edit:
The email server rejected the email due to size limitations.

I just learned about http://www.yousendit.com which will allow you to \"e-mail\" large files.   might be worth a try.
