Title: Project: chevy s-ton
Post by: smichaelR22 on January 09, 2009, 12:25:07 AM
i guess i better retire my 17 page scrambler thread, and let you guys in on the newest project which started out as a new frame for the scrambler.... well noticing that the wheelbase of my DD s-10 is with-in inches of the scrambler, ideas started forming.

long story short, working on getting the cab and front clip of a 95\' s10 to make into a truggy for a comp / wheeler rig this year.

plans:

air shocks / 4 link front and rear
full hydro
full exo
swap scrambler drive train with addition of 5:38 gear swap.

frame built:

Nice looking frame. I wish I would have started with a fresh frame like that when I started.

If you decide to sell what ever is left of the scrambler when you remove everything you want, let me know.

what in particular are you looking for, there isnt going to be much left after im done with it.

i plan to strip the drive train out, sell the doors, half cab, 2 tail gates, possibly the windsheild frame, and the title.  The grill is about the only salvageable body part, which is common to CJ\'s so doenst have the \"scrambler value\" hood if i can find them.

I wouldn\'t mind buying the rest of the body tub, bascicaly the quarters since their longer, I have a spare set already, but I like haveing extra stuff.

I might be interested in all of the stuff you posted above. If you\'ve got a number in your head shoot it over to me.

Are you planning on running a truck bed? or tube in the rear? Also do you have a projected wheel base?

debating the truck bed, i love my scrambler bed for getting fire wood, and the ablility to comfortably carry a full spair and any tools i need.

however, i think i might tube the rear, and just run a locked tool box against the rear of the cab and possibly a wood flat bed or steel mesh over just the rear frame.

i was almost happy with my 106.5\" wheelbase, but built the frame for 110\" since the last RC trip when i sheard a front passenger center pin and my passenger tire walked out on the leaf pack, i really liked how it looked :)

ScramDar.

One of these days I need to wander over to Rochester and take in a meeting.

Now that the Ram and Jeep are ready to go again I thought about coming over to WP to hang out, however I\'m still undecided. I hear there\'s alot of snow in the southern tier, I may head there.

Now back on topic.

looked at a craigs list s10 today that was in pieces.  in really good shape outside, but the dash was gutted and it had been an auto.  Fresh motor pull, but other wise underhood acc complete.  too bad the dash was gutted.  i might still make an offer on it tomorrow.

Still going to shop for a 5 speed extended cab body.

frame looks good still :)

people on craigs list need to call me back and do better, im ready to build!

in search of a 94-96 5 speed ext cab, wrecked motor / frame, clean body / interior / title   :)  under 400$

I really would not worry about the interior.  building a dash isn\'t a big deal and it would be a Very Good Idea to put in a cage and good seats as long as you\'re starting from scratch.

late night, paul and i just got back from the shop.  new cab is hanging over the new frame.  i have some problems due to the small block fitting really tight into the engine bay.  looks like i have to move the engine up, the front axle up, re think the old crossmember and no chance of using same driveshafts.

Smike I still have the hydraulic slave cylinder for my saturn clutch. not sure if you can make it work or not but hydraulic be really nice.
Title: Re: Project: chevy s-ton
Post by: smichaelR22 on January 28, 2009, 11:28:08 AM
ill decided what to do when i get into the firewall and see exactly whats there, the hard line was rotted to the slave cyclinder so i just cut it when we pulled the cab, and i gave the slave to the guy that bought the motor.  Not sure which way ill end up going, i have always had mechanicals on trail rigs, less fluids to bleed and less problems.

Post by: meangreen on January 28, 2009, 01:15:29 PM
there is problems with mechanical clutch linkages on trails too. I switched mine to hydraulic becuse on I keep having the push rod fall out of its dimple on the shift fork and on one of the trail rides I ended up all twisted up and could not shift out of second and ended up breaking a shift fork but since I went with the hydraulic I have had no problems at all. (had to go during the 302 convertion there was no room for the linkage)

you have my slightly less positive comments on it, I\'ll post a pchop here if I ever get a chance to finish catching up on forums and work on it.....  good progress in any case - and I think you managed to get it further down around the frame rail than the General ever bothered to so good job on that :)

paid 180$, drove truck on trailer

sold 5 speed tranny 55$
sold 4.3l motor 100$
frame/axle scrap 41$
scrapped the converter 30$
