Title: Copper Ridge : 7 OCT 2007
Post by: SirFuego on August 21, 2007, 02:38:24 PM
Copper Ridge is open to Jeeps/4x4s for one day only!

WHERE: Copper Ridge in Olean, NY (Directions (http://copperridgetrails.com/_wsn/page6.html))
WHEN: Sunday, October 7, 10AM to 5PM (possibly later)
RESTRICTIONS: Rigs must have 4wd with low range and one strong tow point
COST: $15/driver, $10/passenger

MEETING TIMES: 0730 hrs or 7:30 AM
DEPART TIME: 0800 HRS / 8:00 AM

MEETING PLACE: GANDER MOUNTAIN, HEN.
CB Channel: 31

Hamburgers and hot dogs will be available for lunch at an additional cost.  You are welcome to bring your own food.  Alcohol will not be permitted!

Copper Ridge is stock-friendly and has narrow trails with plenty of hill climbs, descents, and tight turns.  There are also a couple of mud pits to play around in.  The trails may be extremely tight in some places for full-size rigs.  They will provide us with one or more trail guides to show us around the park.  October 7 is also an open riding day for ATVs/dirtbikes, so we will be sharing the trails with them.

There is no cap on the number of rigs that can attend, so let\'s try to make this as big as possible! Though rigs of all sizes are welcome to attend, we do require that your vehicle has functioning 4wd with low range and at least one strong tow point (front and rear preferred).

We must have a good estimate of the number of rigs that will be attending, so please post up if you are interested.

This event was planned and listed as being sponsored by WNYOffroad without proper authority or permission from the WNYOffroad officers. Therefore, this event is not (nor ever was) sponsored by WNYOffroad despite the original post. I take responsibility for this mix up, but would like to assure everyone that this event will still take place as Copper Ridge is excited to host Jeeps and 4x4s on October 7.

ok..stupid question.

You say it is \"stock-friendly\", but what if you are running 4 spare tires.  :)

Seriously, would I be able to have fun with my new wrangler out there?

FYI - no front tow point (yet).  But have a receiver on the back end.  (oh, that sounded bad!)

you should have front tow points.... makes life alot easier.

Count me in also.   If there is interest in TMN members chipping in for a pack of dogs, etc. I have a small grill I can bring. Anyone interested can just post here. I\'ll follow up as the event nears.

Hey guys. First post on here...I found the group this morning.

I just threw a 2\" budget boost, some new shocks, new steering stablizer, new tie rod ends and some new 265/70/17 Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO\'s on my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee this past weekend.

I\'m looking for someplace that\'s not too hardcore to test it\'s capabilities and this event sounds like a good first run for it. I don\'t have a front anchor point, but I do have the stock trailer hitch...I\'m assuming that\'ll work in a bind right?

How far away is Copper Ridge from Rochester?

P.S.

here\'s two before shots of my jeep:

If this was an official Mudnuts sponsored run you would be required to have front and rear tow points, but since this is sponsored by WNYO, you can follow their rules, and  it seems they do not require front hooks for this ride.

Even though its not a Mudnuts event, I\'ve been going nuts getting my wife\'s Jeep ready. Got the spare tire mounted, fire extinguisher attached to seat, and bought a new 2\" x 30\' strap. All thats left is get the CB, first aid kit, and the hi-lift jack in the Jeep. Carrie just rolls her eyes at me.

Copper Ridge is in Olean, NY and it is about a 2 hour drive from Rochester. If you plan to go let us know here and meet the group leaving from Gander Mountain. See original post for details.

WNYoFfroad requires towpoints as well.  given where this is you can probably manage without them from what I understand, but I would highly recommend getting proper towpoints ASAP.  They are inexpensive and easy to install and you could have them ready to go by the trip.

I\'m open minded to that. What\'s the most affordable way for me to come across some tow points for my 2001 WJ?

advanced auto parts or autozone will have a universal towhook for less than $20 that comes with bolts. Depending on the holes in your frame you may have to drill a hole or 2 to mount it.

Post by: Guest on September 27, 2007, 09:12:33 AM
You\'re right. I found a tow hook at Advance Auto online for $9.99. There\'s really no excuse NOT to have one at that price. I\'m picking one up tonight.

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=REE&MfrPartNumber=74604&CategoryCode=3206B

If I mount that up under the front should I get another one for the rear? Or is the factory hitch a legit point to rely on?

you may have issues finding a safe place to bolt it to on the front due to the unibody design.. do some research there are alot of articles online about how to mount hooks to a Cherokee.

The trailer hitch can be used if you have a receiver with a shackle or tow hook. The hitch ball should never be used as a tow point, major safety problem.

I moved the \"reciever hitch tow point\" to the General Tech. Please discuss this topic more there and leave us going on the trip for here.

I\'d be willing to chip in. Me and my wife. Let me know if you want cash or just bring an ingredient. (Dogs, Burgers, etc.)

I know last trip I got the 32 hamberger patties for $11 at Walmart. Pretty good for the cost.

Just take his word for it. You don't want to know the details. Only buy it if it says  100% beef.

I think I\'ll take the \"chicken lips\" over MRE\'s any day!!  You know how our \"favorite uncle\" spares no expense...

Seriously though, is there any other interest in my bringing a grill or should I just plan on grabbing something there?

Mudnuts who were there:
Mike Creen-VanillaThunder
Jim-JeepBuilder
Chris Biusso-z71
Clive
Me & family

I meet the convoy as they were rolling past the 390 exit in Geneseo, was supposed to also meet gmShades there to but he did not show up.  Sorry if we left without ya.

I think the final count was 36 vehicles total coming from Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo and PA.  Vehicles ranged from Clive\'s CJ and a TJ on 37\'s(broke a driveshaft yoke, only carnage of the day I heard of) to a diesel ZJ to stone stock (only one payment paid) TJ\'s to Chris\'s amazing Tracker.  We split into 2 large groups as that was all the knowledgeable trail leader volunteers they could find.

Was a pretty good ride, pretty slick from the rain, so that made a few of the hill climbs/descents tricky.  Made a few stops so guys could play in the mudpits.  Clive struggled with his Jeep all day because it was over heating, finally found that his alternator/battery was not putting out enough juice so his electric fans were not cooling the radiator enough.  After a few jump starts and charging sessions he kept rolling.  I stuck around with him on the way home and we made a trip to Wal-Mart for a fresh battery for the trip home.  I will post my pictures soon.

Hey guys,

I had one hell of a day yesterday, so in a way I\'m happy I didn\'t make the convoy to slow you guys down.

I got to 390 at 9:00 thinking everyone was departing Henrietta at 9:00 like usual, but I should have looked at the time better.

I decided I\'m probably running late, so I took off for Olean. Jeep ran fine, til I took it off cruise for the Olean exit. Jeep started acting up again. It dies when at idle. Everytime I took my foot off the throttle, it would die. Got to the point it was backfiring and making popping noises trying to restart it. I finally decided to stop looking for the spot, and tried heading home. I only got to West Almond, and called AAA and had it towed to Pioneer.

It really bummed me out, cause it was my 1st chance in a long time to go have some fun, oh well  .

Only good news is that its still acting up at the shop, and had a engine light on.

Hopefully everyone had fun that went.

Next time.....

Glenn

I\'ll be posting some soon too, hopefully tonight.  Hopefully Jackie will email me all the pics she took, then i\'ll get those posted too.  (Jackie was one of the trial guides daughters that rode with me.)

I liked the trails even thought it was just hill climbs and decents there were some nice muddy play areas and I thought a bit more area to cover than WP.
