Title: Another JKU Newbie from Rochester
Post by: rmischler on April 23, 2015, 09:15:11 PM
Hey guys,

Just getting into the mix.  Spend most of my days juggling work, just to fund all my aspirations for the new Jeep.  New to all of it.  Came from more of a BMW/Audi fix...... Welcome change, but a big learning curve.  Joined initially for the technical advise....Need to find a local, reputable shop to re-gear.  Going from 3.21 to 4.88 and adding a the 2" AEV lift to accommodate 35s.  Any thoughts on who I should be working with?

i just did 4.56's in a 2012

i dont recomend going past 4.56 in a Dana 30, the pinnions are too weak.

I also do lift kit installs and fabrication work.

Right now i am dealing with some medical issues so havent been in the shop too much.  Happy to help with a parts list and plan, and depending on your time plan- can possible quote the work.

Mike,

I'm the same guy that emailed you last month (and last night). Thought you might be the Mike listed on her as the Admin.
Thanks for the response and sorry to hear. I'm in no real rush and appreciate the help. I'll take the advise on 4.56. I talked to a guy at Krawl off-road and they are $125 more for the 4.56 and Nitro gears. Assume I want the master overhaul kit, gears and carrier for the Dana 30 up front. Let me know your thoughts on this and timeline.

i think this was the kit i recomended for the last install.  i have had good luck with USA standard gears

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-ON-JEEP-JK-RUBICON-DANA-44-4-56-RING-AND-PINION-MASTER-INSTALL-GEAR-PKG-/271623512431?hash=item3f3e05e16f&vxp=mtr

you will need a front carrier 3.73 and up to swap in.

Might want to consider lockers and front shaft upgrades at the same time- a lot of the labor would be repetative at a later time

Mike,

Have a pretty solid quote on 4.56 Yukon branded gears with a new carrier and master overhaul kit.  See good things on Yukon, but wanted to see if you've dealt with them?  Did not purchase yet and would like to find some time to catch up with you.  I don't know much when it comes to lockers and shaft upgrades and could use your input.  Hope you're feeling OK.

Thanks!
