Title: Milage
Post by: 98TJay on January 25, 2008, 04:53:34 PM
Just wondering what kind of tires everyone is running and how many miles they get out of them? Looking to put some Swampers or Mud Terrains on after my lift in a few months. I have 70k on my Wrangler and if I can buy a set of swampers that would last me till about 100k that would be awsome. Looking for some feed back. Thanks.

35x12.50 ProComp Muds
between two jeeps about 9K miles so far on them, i would say comparing from my new spair, the 4 are at about 70% i bet i could get 25K on them before they are useless off road, and would pass inspection to 30K no problem.  If your a smaller size might want to try MTR\'s you will probably get alot of responses for those....  boggers, well, i remember the guy on the phone at 4WD.com laughed when i said i was considering them and told me not to expect more than 15K miles without bald and flat spots....

just my $0.02

the BFG mud terrains were a great tire for my rubicon, they were 35x12.5\'s  quiet on road and great off road when aired down. about 25k they were still ok for offroading

i had some super swamper TSL sx\'s on one wrangler i had, awesome offroad but loud on road. hard to keep them from cupping even when rotating regularly.

just adding 2 more cents to the post

39.5x13.5r17 Iroks: lasted me about 12,000 miles before I didn\'t like them in the rain.  Still fine offroad and could probably be grooved for more miles...

40x13.5r7 MT/Rs: about 10k on them so far, no appreciable wear yet.  I would not be surprised if I see 40k out of them at this rate.

Put 33X12.5X15 ProComp X-terrains on after I lifted my 03 Rubicon 4 inches and always swapped out to a set of Boggers (same size) every time I went off road... both sets lasted about two years (about 18k on the Procomps and 10k on the Boggers).
Then I got lazy (and old) and tired of switching out the tires so my next set of Boggers stayed on for a year.
What did you say????  Did I get bluesed to the boys????
OH!!!! Did I get used to the noise?!!!!
Well that being said... they are loud, but I\'ve seen packs of deer and other animals run the other way when I come down the road, so no road kill for me. You can\'t sneek up on anybody with these.
By the way... this is also my daily driver and the current set of Boggers are thin, thin, thin after 10k.  But I wouldn\'t have any other tire on for off roading.

All good feed back keep it coming. Im thinking about bud terrains but you can get swampers cheaper and they will be better offroad. I def dont have the money to buy to sets and switch them out. What are some deals everyone has got for a set of four and maybe a spare?

I have 40k on my 33\" goodyear MTR\'s, still good for off-road. These are great on the rocks, and road, and snow. They do get clogged in the mud.

My 36\" bias ply super swampers loose 1/8\" every 1,000 miles. I love the SS offroad, but not so much on the street, great on  mud, rocks, but I\'ve never driven it in the snow.

for a 33\" tire, daily driver, and off-roader, I would recommend the MTR, a bit more expensive up front, but they will last you longer.

i think the shipping was only like $35, and i had them shipped overnight. but that was like 2 years ago, i dont know how much it would be now. go to pepboys online and find some then go through the check out to see how much it is...

I like tire rack for cheap tire prices. As long as your tires are 35\" or smaller, shipping is not outrageous.

look in Peterson\'s 4 wheel drive for full pages adds for tires & parts. lots of times you can get rims & tires mounted, balanced and shipped for one price.

You really have to do a little research and a lot of numbers crunching when you\'re looking for tire deals.
My first set of Boggers were all mounted on American Racing black steel rims and came with lug nuts as a package deal from National Tire.  The tires listed as more expensive than other outfits, but it was the shipping that made the whole package the cheapest...
You really have to be careful reading the ads cause shipping can mean the whole set is figured in, or the individual tire plus a box of lug nuts are all at individual rates.
Those magazine deals can look really good at first glance... but check those shipping charges!!!  There are some good package deals with cheaper shipping as part of the package.
