Title: My frame is finally back on its \"feet\"!
Post by: gmshades on August 04, 2007, 07:19:29 AM
Hey guys,

I finally got all the welding completed in order to get the suspension bolted back on. still have a lot of welding left with the rear bumper, gas tank bracket, motor mounts, etc. But to see it like this, priceless.

The guys on the jeep forum didn\'t like the rear shackles\' angle, but I had them welded to their stock location instead of eyeballing it. I think it\'ll be fine once the body is back on.

Let me know what you think!

Why aren\'t you going spring over??

Too many complications going spring over. Plus I\'m only going to run 33\" tires with the axles on the Jeep. I have 5\" of lift between the springs and shackles, which will be plenty.

Got the frame supporting the body for the first time. Just ran outta time before getting it off the cinder block body lift.

Hopefully get it back in the garage to bolt the body to the frame by the end of the week.

is the body going to sit closer to the frame

The front will drop about 6\", and the rear about 4\". Right now it\'s sitting on cinder blocks as bodymounts. I had to do that in order to take out the 4x4\'s that supported the body. Hopefully I\'ll have time tommorrow to get it back in the garage and support it on body mounts. Thats the plan anyway.

I promise I\'ll get the body as low as possible. I had to cut out the firewall to move the body forward enough, but I have plenty of room upward to keep the hood looking stock. I MIGHT have room for a radiator, but I\'ll cross that bridge when I get there.

looks like it\'ll be a bit of work to get that firewall reworked.  It\'ll be worth it though.  how far back does that end up putting the shifter?

With a little fender trimming and some box steel rockers that Geo even is a pretty clean body.  I\'d love to see this as a workable wheeler.

Have fun!

I\'m putting in a cable shifter for the AT, so I can put it anywhere.

I just cut enough to lower the body onto body mounts and 3 hockey pucks at each corner. It looks awesome. I even went and grabbed the front bumper to see how it fits, and  it sits right on the frame, and is in perfect position. I\'ll try to get pictures tomorrow.

Now its just a matter of lifting the body off, finish :hack: out the body to clear the engine, transmission, and headers. Then, more :grind: and :weld: to relocate the body mounts on the frame, drop it down, and bolt it on. After that, it\'ll be minor stuff until next spring when it comes back in the garage. Maybe put the seats back in and get the feel? :evil2: Gotta take it out for winter. :-(

Anyone know of a good storage place for cheap? I hate to see it under a tarp outside all winter.

Got some more work done. I\'ll let you be the judge on how much body lift it has. IMO, It looks like a normal body lift anyone would put on their 4x4.
