Title: KOH 2014
Post by: smichaelR22 on February 13, 2014, 10:03:40 AM
Matt and I commited to taking out our buggies to the lake bed, and Matt C joined as a co dawg for Matt.

We loaded the cars up thursday night with a private transporter and filled them with light gear.  We flew out to Vegas friday night, picked up a 31' RV saturday afternoon, and headed 212 miles west to the Johnson Valley OHV park.  This place was amazing terrain and unexplainably cool.  The Cars showed up late sunday night and we unloaded monday morning.  we got settled with our non resident 2014 California OHV pass (30$!) and got pit passes, arm bands, hammertown parking passes, and remote pit access passes for both cars for around 100$.  we were in. full access and ready to do KOH 2014

Monday night was backdoor challenge.  crazy fun
tuesday though thursday was king of Motos, UTV;s and LCQ.  we watched and wheeled the 188,000 acers of state land all week.  We got the race course and trail way points on our lowarnce GPS chart plotters which was a huge help from one of the racers.
Wednesday or so we broke Matts carrier bearing on chocolate thunder and had to run to town for a part from the local (61miles away) industrial supply place.  The next night we hotlapped chocolate thunder twice haha.

we specated the main race from a few areas and decided on a few spots we would run the next day.  saw some roll overs and passes within the first 5 miles of the course.

Saturday we ran 4-5 miles of the course rock trails:  hells gate, something pass, and a few others.  played in the dunes while waiting for the parking lot to clear from Jackhammer, but unsuccessfully it did not 2 hours later.  we headed to the far dunes and found 3 guys from RIT also mechanical engineers, one of which grew up down the street from Matt in scranton PA.  Crazy!  Saturday night we traversed some of the coolest mountains and not really sure when wheeling changed to lost to back on the lake bed as a crazy sand storm rolled in.

Later that night transporters loaded and in the morning after some packing and clean up we headed back to Vegas for another night.

Monday morning we droped the RV back without issue, and flew home through Washington.

Awesome trip.  some of the Facebook uploads i put in the 2014 Gallery, and there will be much more to come as we have about 80GB of GoPro footage to edit.

Cars made it back last night without issue.

Deff want to do again!

Id like to do a post KOH party to get everyone together and maybe do some slide shows or go pro video watching once we get that back and going.

Hammer trails wheeled:

Up Sledgehammer to plaque line and back down
Up Chocolate Thunder day and night runs
Up Hell's Gate
Down Devil's Slide
Up Sunbonnet

No time to hit Backdoor hard but Smike attempted
