Listed is an axle I'm considering. General opinion on a fair price? Dana 35 with a Powertrax locker. New brakes(5k miles) Complete ready to bolt in.

Locker is worth $350 new. Probably a good price to target for everything.
Correct gearing?

You're buying or selling? Never buy a d35. They're worth their weight in steel.
If you're selling, Mark is right on.
If you're buying, an 8.8" swap from an Explorer or a d44 or 8.25 from other mopar stuff is what to actually shop for.

I have a dilema...I don't do any "hard core" wheeling, but do like to push it when I do go a few times a year. This swap would be easy, same gears. My current axle is open and I would like the locker. I know that an explorer 8.8 or d44 is the best, but for my application, is is necessary? The cost for the complete set up was $750, and before I commit, I had to ask, too much $ or waste of $ or both. I'm unsure of the cost of an 8.8, and all that involves that swap. If its not crazy, then I should explore that. Again, this axle is nothing I NEED, just a want, kind of. As always, your help is appreciated. Happy New Year! Dave

What size tires are you on?
It's not worth anywhere NEAR $400 to get fresh brakes and a spare set of axle shafts. I'd think for $750 you could have an 8.8 or 44 in there, and a D35 to sell for $150ish.

Put a locker in what you have and grab a set of spare shafts. BTW - I have a set... ;D

if you shop im sure you can get a 8.8 under your TJ for $500 but unless your looking to regear and kill a couple birds with one stone everybody is right... grab some extra shafts and enjoy your jeep...
