Title: JK guys...chime in please!
Post by: jACeL86 on October 02, 2012, 05:44:37 PM
Already asked Alex about this, just wanna make sure.
My boss is buying a new wrangler unlimited sahara. Spec'ing it from the factory with everything he wants but the wheels and tires aren't quite to his liking. 2" lift comes installed so he wants bigger. Currently looking at some atx rims with 4.25 backspacing and 35's that measure a bit small (34.5)
Any red flags?
He's getting 3.73 gearing i believe with an auto. Not too worried about breathtaking speed or crawl speed. Just a dd with a possible jaunt with us on easy trails.

I am running 35s on my 07 JK Sahara unlimited, with 3.5" lift, and bush wacker flat fenders, I dont seem to have any problems

I had 35's auto with 4.10's and it sucked.  If he goes this route tell him to plan on regearing soon or everytime he drives it he will be turning O/D off and the trans will be gear searching constantly.  I now run 5.13's and all is well :D  Also get a programmer to help correct shift points and speedo.

Did you have the 3.8 though? My 4.0 is fine on 37's with 4.10 gears and that new engine has a ton more power than the 3.8.

Just put 35's on my JK with the 3.8 auto. Really had an issue with gears in the PA mountains and my mileage dropped for the trip...to be expected. As far as "normal" driving...no real issues. On the trails there was plenty of power (if thats what u call it) to get the job done.
I think he will be fine  :)

He has the pentastar so I'm sure it will be fine power wise with the auto.
