Title: Car hauler trailer brands
Post by: jACeL86 on September 14, 2012, 06:31:52 PM
Plan for jeep to be towed:
Truck- check
Trailer- pricing!

Just want a 16-18 foot, open, flat deck car trailer (hitch tow). Most look to be around 2500-3500 ish. Any good/bad experiences with certain brands? Worth it to dish out the cash for an aluminum?

I've looked at all sorts of trailers, new and used.  I really like how the PJ series is constructed.  Hecho en Mexico.  There is a dealer in Fayette, Fingerlakes Trailer I think.  18' ~ $2800 +tax.

I was looking for "beaver" tail, good ramp storage, integrated lights (not tacked on or sticking out), aluminum fenders, wooden deck, and good coupler.

Seems like all trailers in the used market hold their value.  $2000 for decent used.

Love aluminum but it doubles the cost.  Featherlite is the top choice there.

You're welcome to come check out/try out my '08 PJ.

I don't think I've seen your PJ, Mark.

I know they make some good geeseneck. I like Harry's Appalachian for a solid lightweight trailer. I hope it lasts as well as it should. It's definitely a
7k trailer and not a 12k.

You have a real truck, I'd get a real 10-14k trailer not a chinsey 7k wiggle wagon. I'd also go 18-20' just for flexibility's sake. I bet money is similar and it will help when you need to want to move something other than your short/ tall TJ

I got an 18', 7k  wood deck that I had them build with no dovetail for no extra cost. Also got the rub rail and a spare and they threw in the flip down jack for free. Unlike most 7k trailers I looked at, it has brakes on all four wheels. It was just over $2500 said and done.

I would reccomend them whatever you get. They make basically the same thing as mine in 10k and 12k too. Just call them up and talk to them, they were very nice. As Mike said, I can't comment on how it works after years of use, but I'm very happy with it.

Through my several years or so of looking for a trailer haha, new defiantly is the way to go if you can swing it.  I dont know how but used beat ass trailers seem to sell regularly for like 90% of new price.  Appalachian & Kaufman seem good, PJ best.

Id spend the aluminum money on a goose and get your fuel paid for :D

This just posted up on right coast.  Idk if thats a deal or not but the buggy haulers are sweet!

Selling my 2009 PJ Buggyhauler. It is 10K and was custom built when I ordered it. It has driveover fenders and is 18 feet long. It will include the box mounted on it and axle tie downs. I can also toss in the load distrabution hitch with sway control for the asking price. Trailer pulls great and I would guess it only has 2000 to 2500 miles on it. $3000 obo. Hook up load up and go.

If your truck can do it... I'd think hard about this!! There are always club members looking for a ride down!!

I'd love to go the big gooseneck route but funds are a little tighter with a truck payment. Guess i could keep my eyes peeled for a good used one if they hold up better than a 7k???

Entertaining the idea of a 2 place goose. After discussion at the meeting last night about the needed length, I took a look at some setups. The shorter of the 2 shown is a 19+4 and the bigger is 20+5. Looks like I'd be more than comfortable with anything 26-30'.

I'd go 30 or even 36. The extra length doesn't hurt you much and gives much more flexibility!

Probably going to price a 30-32' sometime this winter. Opinions on any of these? http://www.etrailer.com/g-2012_Ford_F-250+and+F-350+Super+Duty.htm?style=8+Foot+Bed&furl=-sf-Below_the_Bed
Or any other brands I should be checking out?

B&W is the usual go-to. Perhaps too new? I don't think I'd feel bad about either of those Curt options.
