Title: New Guy from Lockport NY (near buffalo)
Post by: Muddy_Tenrai on September 11, 2011, 05:10:53 PM
I recently (a few months ago) bought a 1992 Toyota Landcruiser I\'ve taken it offroad a few times on some trails, got stuck pretty nasty once, luckily there was a nice guy with the right gear nearby to help my ignorant ass. I\'m completely ignorant on all things offroading and I\'m fine with admitting that, I wanna change it though. I think i have the basic neccessities for it in terms of gear (Shovel, Tow strap, Emergency flashlight lots of batteries and a few sandbags) But as far as vehicle modifications i have NO idea where to start. Any suggestions? i want to use the car for roadside assistance in the winter (pulling people out of ditches etc etc) it has 200K miles on it though and i dont know if that would be too taxing on the transmission. so any wisdom and advice would be great, I want to learn everythign i can.

Welcome to the site!  I grew up in Pendleton and Lockport.  Change a lot since then.

There are some Toyota guys on the BB that will chime in.

Welcome!

Starting from zero there\'s definitely a lot to learn!

There\'s much to be said for learning what your stock rig can do before forming a plan, that\'s what I\'d probably suggest. Then you can start thinking about how agressive of a tire you want to go with, whether you want to go oversized with or without trimming or lifting, and grow from there...

I\'ve taken it out a few times and got it stuck pretty damn nasty once, but it can handle pretty much everything thats not too nasty and really deep mud is definitly a major killer as i found out when i slipped into it

really deep mud can \"get\" anything that doesn\'t have 700 hp and tractor tires!
