Title: Looking for a front drive shaft out of an XJ
Post by: Callelle on August 26, 2011, 07:52:41 AM
Like the title says, I need a front drive shaft. At the picnic, I put a small crack in my transfer case so I\'m gonna be pulling it and getting the crack welded and fixed up. This does give me an opportunity to instal an SYE and get rid of my T-Case drop. How ever I\'m not really looking to spend 300+ on a custom drive shaft so I just want to rebuild a front one for now. If anyone has one, let me know and how much you want for it.

That sucks, sorry I didn\'t catch that quicker.

No worries. Its one of those happy accidents since its giving me the opportunity to put an SYE in, get rid of the T case drop, and service it all together. Since I\'m gonna be having everything apart anyway, I\'m also gonna be putting some new JKS boomerang shackles in and getting rid of my 1\" lift blocks.

Its a really small crack anyway. Should be an easy fix

good picture!

that whole corner is bashed in, only one small leak but I see a larger crack above it and one to the left as well.  Nothing a little time with a TIG couldn\'t fix right up once removed, dried and cleaned up though.

Yeah. It shouldnt be to bad to work on. The lift in my garage really helps. Once I get it off and all apart. I have a friend I can give the housing to and hes gonna weld it back together where he works. Nothing beats free these days.

just replace it, inspect the chain and internals while you have it apart.  dont we have like 3 or 4 of these case halves laying around with bad internals?  i think i scrapped all the ones that were broken...

takes like 10 minutes to pull one of these apart after you do it 5 times like i had to  >:

it only takes 5 minutes if the snap rings are agreeable - which they never seem to be.

I don\'t know what you left me with so I can\'t comment on good parts I\'ve got or don\'t have....

I wouldn\'t mind if someone were to find a good case half. If anyone finds one, let me know.

Got my case apart today. Still need a drive shaft and possibly a rear main housing.

assuming its a 231? i have one sitting in my garage that has a bent tail shaft (bought it like that). the case itself is still good. swapped it into my ZJ but it vibrates bad over 60 so it replaced it. you can have it for $50 but you\'d have to pick it up because i\'m at school in PA. email me if interested spencer.turan@gmail.com

Bump. Transfer Case fixed, almost back together. Still need a front drive shaft. What are some good salvage yards to call. I\'ve called a couple around me but haven\'t heard back from any of them.

Action Auto Parts here in Henrietta
Northside Salvage

our usual go-to is J&J in Manchester, they\'re the best close pick & pull

There\'s another pick & pull on your side of Rochester but I\'ve had pricing disagreements with them and I\'m drawing a blank on their name.  I want to say they\'re Churchville-ish.
