:-p
made some progress today, got pretty much everything that was bolted to the frame off, few stubborn bolts to deal with still...
need to do some cleaning up & then paint it
not sure what paint to use, some ideas, but still not sure

Rustoleum hammered brush on is holding up fantastic on my frame and cage. And my prep consisted of a hose off haha.

progress only starts when you start taking your own junk apart..

Don\'t knock free labor...

can\'t wait to see the tub....don\'t forget to share pictures when you get it.

It\'s awesome that your dad is working on this with you...this may be your best project ever, one you\'ll remember for sure.
Good to have some of dad\'s cash too ! sorta like a sponsor.

My son\'s been wheelin twice now at Whispering Pines (missed Rausch)and has the itch for a Jeep. Hopefully someday I can do the same with him.

i\'m not knocking the labor
he\'s great, i had a 69 corvair a bunch of years ago & we worked on that, it was too much of a project at the time though (glad i got rid of it & have my cj)

who said anything about dad\'s cash?
he is supplying storage & workspace, i have dinner with my parents whenever i happen to be over there too :-)
my parent\'s are great to deal with me :-)

naturally i forgot pics tonight.... haha

thought of another thing to think about..
can i repair my windsheild frame, or get another one.  i have a fiberglass one, its kinda beatup.  i could have another fiberglass one brand new, cheap.  i would like to figure out another way to fasten my hard top/bikini top...

hmmm...

I\'d stay away from the fiberglass frame unless you have a way to stabilize it.  They move a LOT when driving down the road.  If you can tie it to the cage somehow, I\'d go with it.

stripped frame
tub, needs interesting stickers removed & to be painted

took the frame to smike\'s tonight & welded a couple of things
then got home & unloaded it & decided to place the tub on the frame, good thing mike is letting me borrow his cherry picker :-)
i\'ll get a better pic tomorrow

i failed on getting another pic this morn...
hopefully it won\'t be long before its back on the frame.
got the bottom of the tub painted with a cheap bedliner, looks pretty good

need to move 2 body mounts back about 2\", sucks that they only have to move that far...
Title: Re: cj7 rebuild
Post by: carchameleon on July 31, 2011, 12:07:19 AM
sleeves in & look good
most of a first coat of chassis saver is done

need to weld body mounts on
get longer drill bit so i can drill through the other side of the frame (through the sleeves)
finish painting in daylight (and find missed spots)

coming along nicely :-D

gotta try to remember pics tomorrow..

I\'m confused.

You drilled through one side of the frame, sleeved it, and are then drilling through the other side? that seems quite backwards. Little late now though.

how are you going to weld the other end of the sleeve?
Title: Re: cj7 rebuild
Post by: carchameleon on July 31, 2011, 08:58:36 PM
don\'t worry about it   :-)
Title: Re: cj7 rebuild
Post by: carchameleon on July 31, 2011, 08:59:31 PM
did some really nice welding this morning with gas instead of just flux
1.5 coats of the chassis paint done, might finish 2nd coat tomorrow night
then i have to get some other color
have to finish the through hole for the sleeved holes
probably a few other things

goal: be ready to start moving parts on friday - achievable   :-D

if only....
i failed at working on it today.....

tomorrow night i\'m going to get 1 axle installed, then thursday i\'ll get the other axle & the engine/trans/tcase installed
yep, that sounds like a plan
Title: Re: cj7 rebuild
Post by: carchameleon on August 10, 2011, 09:56:05 PM
since i didn\'t have to work tonight, it became a rolling chassis :-)

Title: Re: cj7 rebuild
Post by: carchameleon on September 20, 2011, 08:48:30 PM
new wiring harness took about a week, a few hours a night

buttoned up a lot of stuff & dressed the wires, tightened bolts, looked it over

took it for a drive down the street (just staying in the neighborhood), its hard to drive without a windsheild :-)
waiting for a seal, then new windsheild frame & then i can really drive it :-D
needs shocks too... details

i love my yellow frame :-)

the rest of the tub is kinda painted

had help swapping my glass into the new windsheild frame tonight, went smoothly & will be installed tomorrow after work

then i\'ll really drive it and win a bet :-)

haven\'t really done anything on the cj in a while, been busy with my newborn neice :-)

got rid of the carcass of the old cj
was 1600lbs, my xj pulled it like a champ
