Title: heater
Post by: rjeepr on May 17, 2011, 01:44:07 PM
Planning my yj build and just wanted some feedback on a couple ideas. First is the heater. I had an idea to remove the factoey heater alltogether. In its place use an electric heater ran to the battery. Does anyone know of any problems I will run into? I was thinking just connect the the inlet and outlet of the heater core and that would b it.

Poor use of power.  Electrical heating element is a huge draw on your system.  Maybe retrofit a smaller heater core assembly?

Was planning 2 batteries. The idea behind the electric heater besides no more waiting for the engine to warm up for heat is a cleaner dash. And less of a cluster fu#% behind it. I plan on making my own dash and just figured it would be easier to wire a couple electric heaters rather than an intire heater system and controls.

Those don\'t seem like solid enough reasons to install that sort of electrical draw to me, there are standalone hot water heaters out there.  Many run them in front of their center console...

How well do the hot water heaters work, and how complicated are they to instal?

I have no firsthand experience but here\'s an example....

Just need power for the fan and heater hoses.
