i was hoping to have the XJ for this trip, maybe it has heat :)

if not, im swaping the polarity of my radiator fans, and cutting a nice vent in the rear firewall :)  some zip ties and plexi will make a wind screen for the buggy

Should we move this to the public forum and see if anyone else is interested?  It\'s listed as an \"open\" ride...
Title: Re: Rausch Creek November 19th-21st
Post by: ollllllo on October 28, 2010, 07:03:42 PM
Its listed as an \"OPEN RIDE\" because...

I copy and pasted SMIKE\'s Rausch creek race post. :) and I missed that info.

How does everyone else planning to attend feel about posting this in the public section?

Im up for anything as far as difficulty. wouldn\'t mind a weekend of Blue\'s and Black\'s in the street JEEP!
Title: Re: Rausch Creek November 19th-21st

doubt anyone new will come but im happy to change up the weekend for what ever rigs show up!

I\'m planning to go. I was actually going to ask if it would be OK to bring a non-member a long with me...

Never been so I don\'t really know how difficult blues and blacks are... Not terribly I\'m guessing? I\'ve got no trailer and 32\'s so I\'m pretty much stuck with \'street jeep\' difficulty. Haha

I rate the trails at Rausch Creek as follows:

Green = Easy / stock (access roads, forest trails)

Blue = Mild / stock - 31\'s, lift, one locker recommended

Black = Intermediate / 33\'s, lift, body protection recommended, one locker required

Purple = Difficult / 35\'s more lift, body protection recommended, one locker required, two lockers recommended, winch recommended

Red = Extreme / Minimum 35\'s, lift, body & drive-train damage possible, two lockers required, winch highly recommended

(These are my personal trail ratings. Now thats not to say anyone cant run any trail with any vehicle, it just depends on how much abuse they want to put their vehicle through)

The trails we run on any given weekend are typically determined by who comes out to play.

We are more than willing to show anyone around the park, and you are guaranteed to have a great time.

BUT...
You must meet the Trail FLX4x4 Trail Saftey Requirements. (http://www.fingerlakes4x4.org/modules/Trail%20Safety/).

The following items are the minimum that a member must bring to every trail ride that
he/she attends. These are inspectable items by the ride organizer. If any items are found
missing the member will be asked not to attend.

1) CB Radio
2) First Aid Kit
3) Fire Extinguisher
4) Garbage Bags
5) Front and Rear Tow Points
6) Tow Strap, Minimum 2”, No Hooks
7) Proper Size Spare Tire
8) Proper Size Jack for Vehicle Height
9) Proper Passenger Restraints, Correctly Mounted
10) Properly Mounted Battery, No Bungee Cords
11) All Loose Items Are Securely Tied Down
12) Roll Bar Or Solid Roof

Non Members are always welcome as passengers.

I assume by the fact that your willing to drive 4 hours to the park that your JEEP is in good working condition? LOL

Rausch Creek and any other 4x4 trail for that matter will definitely test your vehicle and point out its weak spots.

Feel free to post up any questions about what to pack for camping and what to bring in your JEEP on the trail.

Here are maps of the East and West properties.
They did not have maps of the New land on the other side of the road available for download.

Click on the maps to ZOOM and explore!

But I know Im interested in doing some more exploring on that property.

Thanks for the detailed response! All sounds good. I\'ll need to pick up a couple things on the list but I have the big ones (full size spare, tow points, etc.) covered.

My Jeep is in good working order, but I would probably stick to the blues for the weekend. I\'d hate to be the only one there who wanted to stick to the easier stuff though...

The other half has off that weekend. So it looks like +2, if I can mooch Ryan\'s awesome trailer again.  My trailer funds went to a bay window for the house.  :-?

Snowy driving is a big concern though, driving the big shoe box.

Across the road is a nice area. I dont think I have seen even half of it.

Affliction is the new hard trail, There are a few nice rocky hill climbs. There is even a blacktop road running thru it.

Is this a members only deal? I know a couple past members were interested in going down once more this year.

My trailer may be available again for the right price.... :-)

Let\'s open it up and get more people out!  One of my personal club highlights prior to becoming an official member was a Rausch trip last year with my \"new\" trailer/tire failure :banghead: and the support that members provided!  That \"leave no one behind\" mentality won me over and will keep me coming back.

$0.02

I agree, lets open this ride the the public. Many people at 4x4-101 asked about a Rausch trip. It would be a good end to the season (although for some of us the season never ends ;)

I go via I81.  Shorter for me and all big roads.  I don\'t like towing on the little roads and their hills.

Some sleep in their trucks, some in tents, some in trailers.  Like Smike said, \"it\'ll be fine!\"

We are breaking out the arctic tent, we sleep on our flat bed trailer (because it is flat, level and has no rocks to poke us).

Erik and I are not meeting in Cohocton, we can meet in Kanona at the truck stop if anyone wants to meet us there.

Sounds good. It\'ll be refreshing. Anyone ever seen the arctic Top Gear? If they can do it in sub-zero temps, I can do it in 20s.

Not sure what my route will be or when I\'ll be leaving yet, but I\'d like to follow someone down if possible. If not, I\'m sure I\'ll find it.

Weather looks sunny for this weekend @ Rausch, but Cold @ night. :cold:
Im definitely packing plenty of thermal underwear.

I emailed Bruce just to confirm for those of us that are arriving Thurs and wheeling Fri.

And it sounds like Troy might get the MJ done as well?

Looking forward to a great weekend.

Arie (rejeep) needs a roof rack picked up in Lansdale, PA this weekend.

It\'s about 90 miles ESE of Rausch.  He\'s offering return trip fuel and some NuWay parts.

Here\'s the route Rausch to Landsdale.

After some clean up, I found that I didn\'t come out unscathed...

Once again, I bent the wimpy tie rod, this time on the other end.  It was time for an upgrade...

After some review, I opted for the much heavier but easy-to-find parts for a 1995-8 V8 Grand Cherokee.  For around $100, I replaced the thin tube stock piece-of-crap with something that shouldn\'t bend on every contact!
