Title: WTB: 4dr JK Rubi
Post by: bear555 on September 27, 2010, 09:26:51 AM
Used 4dr Rubi with Auto and a Hard Top, and less than 50k Miles.
For around $25k

The wife also demands that it not be \"baby puke green\".

Rescue Green is the best color.  Demand that she reconsider :)

If you find one that color, send it my way. We are also in the market for a 4door, auto rubicon - baby puke green. Looking for a 2011 because of burning oil issues in earlier models and poor auto tranny.

Tell me about the auto tranny issues!
I must have missed something in my research

At the Cool Ride event, Our group had two JK\'s one four door, one two door. We grilled them on the JK\'s. They both said they consistently burn a quart of oil a month, since they day they bought them. The also said that the auto transmissions were poorly designed and weak. They said the \'mini-van\' motor was underpowered and slow. So they said to wait until 2011 when the motor and tranny are redesigned.

Their experience was enough for us to take their word. When the time gets closer to buy one, after I graduate in January, I\'m sure we will do our own independent research to confirm.

The 2011 Jeep Wrangler is here; the 2012 will have a standard Pentastar V6. A revised VM diesel is for export markets. Rock-Trac 4x4 system. The Scrambler pickup appears to be “no-go” for a few years at least. Jeep Wrangler  • Scrambler pickup • Jeep Off-Road Campers

some issues i keep hearing about.

Right now my problem with the 3.8 is high oil consumption. One quart every 2000 miles over the last 36,000 miles. This last oil change was different. So far 3,000 miles and down only 1/2 quart. Different dealer did the last change.l don\'t know what oil they used but consumption is different. That has been my personal experience so far. Otherwise no problems.

My findings showed that most owners that reported no oil consumption were running Mobil 1 Synthetic, or were 2008.

The more I think about it and the more I talk to other members I think I\'m going to hold off and wait for the Pentastar. Plus I\'ll be able to throw a little money into the xj.

Hmmmmm dreaming here. tires, Aussie Locker, new rear leafs, maybe even reardisks or 8.8 swap....

what oil are you talking about?  The transmission overheat issue that was resolved in a TSB, or something else?

I think you don\'t give the JK enough credit.  I\'ve been quite impressed with it since I bought my 2-door, and especially after driving my dad\'s 4-door out in Arizona.

more than one JK owner has told us the same thing...they burn about a quart between oil changes. Most of the issues seemed to be with the 07\'s. but we have heard of some oil burning issues with the newer versions, but they werent using synthetic.

So I think we are going to go for a used one, save some cash for the lift, tires, fenders, bumpers, soft top, etc :)

The JK forum is huge, I\'m going to start reading it more often!

If you are still looking for a jk, there is a black Rubi for sale at Hoselton on Marsh rd. It\'s a \'08 with just over 30k for $28,400 but you could probably negotiate down.

Thanks Jake, I will.

The more I look at prices the more I am starting to believe that the Rubi upgrade is not worth it. Let me put it to every one this way, would you rather have the Rubi upgrade or 10K to do it your self?

looking at new...

or
39k for a rubi

I always think the same thing.  Then I ask myself if it will ever get done?  And, is it worth the time to do it myself?

As much as I love working on my junk, sometimes the reality of my situation is that it\'s worth the extra $$ to have it done already and be enjoying it now. (the whole American instant gratification thing ;-))

Of course, I don\'t think I could choke a 10k difference.  Maybe 5k for the 4:1 t-case and axle upgrade...

I\'ve seen 2010 4-door rubi\'s for 37k - 35k around here.

I think the time savings vs. extra cost is worth it, bigger axles, transfer case gears, electronic say-bar disconnect, electronic lockers.

To do it yourself, all of those upgrades would be out of pocket. You can finance a rubicon.

I don\'t know if I would be willing to go off road with a vehicle with that kind of note. 35K and then say you have some trail damage that the insurance company, warranty won\'t cover. 10K in a dedicated trail ride being towed by your new one makes more sense to me.

I\'m looking for a DD that will also be our JeepWerx show vehicle. I\'ll probably wheel it on moderate trails, a couple times a year, like in western mass and with Jon Fund. I don\'t plan on selling the CJ until we build a buggy.

Bear & I are both looking for 4-door Rubi\'s, but I\'m looking for the color his wife hates, rescue green.
