Title: JD2 Tube notcher
Post by: ollllllo on September 12, 2010, 03:47:07 PM
I had purchased this notcher a few months ago when I had planned to rebuild my CJ-Buggy cage. I ordered it on-line from
Trick Tools (http://www.trick-tools.com/)

I upgraded to this model because it has the ability to perform offset notches, and can angle to 50deg. It also has sealed/replaceable ball bearings, and has a 2-axis adjustable tube clamp. (great for notching bent tube)

This is really heavy duty and CNC made.
It weighs 24lbs and was easy to assemble right out of the box.

Once I got used to it, I can whip through some serious notches.

My only complaint is the bolt that locks the angle of the shaft into place is an allen head, and when your busting through a bunch of notches it can be a PAIN to change. You need to use 2 wrenches. i supposed I could tack weld the nut on the underside to cut down on the number of wrenches requires, but I\'ll probably replace it with some sort of quick release bolt (like a mountain bike front axle)

It uses standard BI-METAL hole saws available from DEPOT or LOWES. However I prefer the Fastenal brand holeswaws. They are made by Lennox and cost less, but seem to have more life. I made every notch for my first two projects (25+ cuts) and the hole saw is still like new.

I give this product a 10 out of 10!
