Title: Have welder will travel?
Post by: k9keeper on July 06, 2010, 06:34:04 AM
Honest, it sounded like a rock, but apparently it was a can opener.

So I need some welding help on this, since I lack a welder and the skills.

Nice job!

I\'ve got a little of both but lack the time this week.  If it can wait...

Prep work will take the most time.  Beat that thing back into shape and put a grinder to the sides of the tear(sp?).  Maybe some additional steel to brace it in a few spots?

My $.02 but I will let the pros here weigh in.

Wow mike that\'s a good one. Id love to help out , but this week is bad for us too.
Since I worked july 4th weekend, cora and I are going wheeling for my birthday this weekend. Fri-sun, hopefully we are bringing the puppies to your kennel. So needlless to say my next few nights are full prepping the two jeeps. You are more than welcome to borrow any of my welders, like smike said, I just got a new miller that runs on 110v and 230. (No special plug needed) or I have a couple ready welders, and another 110v that would prob work fine. Your welcome to try any. If no one else can make it over before we return, I could swing by mon evening after work. We are working on the lake in webster.

Definetly will want to reinforce the seam with additional steel.

This does not need to be done this week. Need to get some steel to reinforce. Would you use 2 or 3 inch wide pieces to place over the tear or do something larger?

Probably anything to span the gap some.  Whatever you can scrounge should be OK.

how thick is that deck steel?

do you have 230v available there?

it looks like there\'s a nice gouge around the edge of blade swing....  bearing failure coming soon, perhaps?

I measured it as 1/8 inch.  Some Googling yields 10 gauge.

230v, not at the moment, but there is spare breakers in the box in the garage. So I can get there without a lot of trouble.

As far as bearings. It seems run fine without rattling. I figured the deck is flexible

those spindles are damn near indestructible. I did the same thing. cut the deck off in 3 pieces and replaced it.

whatever you do don\'t create flat spots for the blades to hook on. if anything run a long flat piece of 1/8\" right over the top and stick it back down. guarantee you its not the last time this will happen.

bummer that looks like its stamped steel. mine was angle frame with 10 gage plates.

Typical SNAFU, I managed to break the tractor now, so now I cannot move out of the field to get it somewhere to be welded

Having the tractor fixed and I am going on vacation next week. So I shall worry about it in August
