You can definitely count on Cora and I attending!
Only one problem... Do I bring the CJBuggy or the StreetCJ? Decisions, Decisions!

I go to Rausch all the time, I only get to wheel there once or twice a year, and only see those people a couple times a year.  CoolRide isn\'t looking good.

I am not yet a paid member of your club yet, but I just made arrangements to go on this ride.  I have a 98 TJ with only a small 2.5 susp. lift.  Not looking to go crazy, just take in the scenery, do some trail riding with my family.  Is this event as family orientated as the description?

What route is the best for trailering a vehicle?  I am coming from Spencerport.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i will be leaving from rochester if you want to caravan... or at least meet up at some point on the HWY...

I like 81...
just more traffic and I feel more comfortable on a major HWY with a trailer..
but I know Smike has found some back road way I was thinking of trying..

Going 390 to 15 saves about an hour over going 81.

Post by: Wingman on July 11, 2010, 08:05:46 AM
When I go down, I use I-81 but I live farther east than most of you...

Post by: smichaelR22 on July 11, 2010, 12:06:23 PM
390 to 15 to 180 to 80 to 54 to 901 to 81 seems to be the way of choice for capable tow rigs  i can do it in under 4 hours alone :)
Title: Re: JonFund CoolRide 8/6th - 8th
Post by: MrMindless on July 12, 2010, 08:34:20 AM
there are some REALLY backroads ways if you\'re feeling adventurous (look up PA125), but 901 & 54 is definitely my route of choice.  There\'s a couple good hills but it\'s not backwoods and it\'s much shorter.  If you want to skip the hills, 390/86/15/180/80/81 is a bit longer but MUCH shorter and cheaper than 90/81.
Title: Re: JonFund CoolRide 8/6th - 8th
Post by: CoraC143 on July 12, 2010, 09:26:44 AM
81 adds an hour to the trip. 15 is now almost all big highway, not the twisty old road it used to be. The route is easier now, but if you don\'t want to do the 54/901 section you can go 180 to 80 to 81. Not much further (but still shorter than 81 all the way) and all highway.

the route we always take is 390-15-180-54-80-901-81. Google maps will take you this route from rochester. We haul a 40\' trailer with two jeeps and a ton of gear and the F-350 handles it like a pro.

Post by: Nick on July 12, 2010, 01:22:41 PM
I always run 390-15-180-80-81 just for the ease of towing and the 15 min or so you save going the other way and a little harder of towing is not worth it to me towing the 2 jeeps on the trailer.

Post by: smichaelR22 on July 12, 2010, 02:09:18 PM
i will add, construction is getting quite annoying with 45 and 55 MPH sections with the back route.  81 might help make that decision for those more west

LOL!

We had a GPS moment this weekend, hauled the big trailer up/down a narrow dirt road for a re-route. Didn\'t need 4-WD, but if it was snow/ice we would have been screwed.

my piece of garbage GPS (that is made by another divsion of Delphi, the company i work for) has forced me to become a much better directionly based driver.  that thing is a pile.  i swear i have thrown it out the window almost 3  times.

I prefer my phone google maps live navigation. It\'s always up to date, and you get a street view of your destination, BUT if you are out of 3G it doesn\'t work.

Post by: MrMindless on July 13, 2010, 09:57:35 AM
I\'ve used MapQuest on my iPhone for a few drives now, and it rocks my socks off. free, voice guidance WITH street names, caches enough that it will still prompt for turns when out of coverage, and it still works just great in Edge service.

I prefer the mountain route over all highway anyday. Keeps me on my toes.

Lost 5th in the tow rig transmission, unless another goosneck hitch is heading down I think I have to cancel.  I won\'t have it fixed... I haven\'t made up my mind on tearing it apart vs making the trip in 4th vs any options I haven\'t thought of....

:(

Definitely got the black cloud Mark mentioned.

What a great time.
Jonfund put together an amazing weekend packed with great people, great food, and tons of Wheeling.

Everyone should put this event on their calendar for next year.

Thanks Arie! (REJEEP) Your event was very enjoyable and relaxing and Making so many new friends and contacts was way more than I ever expected.

Im working on my trip report from the weekend. So keep an eye out if your interested!

There was a ton of carnage, but we still seemed to pack in a so many trails! Maybe hitting the trails at 8:30 and calling it a night at 6 had something to do with it.

YUP!
That was always the plan, I cant believe that the leaf springs lasted this long.

The did manage to make it the entire weekend. Broke on the last trail Sunday. (Cemetery Red Uphill exit)

My new PSC steering system was re-built thurs @ 6pm, bled and driven on the trailer. We departed @ 830 pm thurs night.
Steering worked flawlessly...Finally!

I want to give a big thanks to Arie who made this event happen! He was the one who brought this event back to life, it was going to be canceled. His hard work he brought 21 rigs from NH, MA, CT, VT, NY to this event! The raffle was huge was some big ticket items, again made possible by Arie! Thanks for asking us to be a part of this successful event!

the timing was right around lunch, so we had lunch and welded it up with the ReadyWelder.

oops, thought you were talking about Arie\'s spring hanger.

The leaf spring failure, ya not good timing.
