Awesome, not that this Sunday was canceled but the amount of work going into the off road park, since this is in my backyard so to speak. I will be there for the play days  and a spectator at the comps, not even close to having something that can compete. Look forward to seeing you guys out there.

This sounds like fun. It sounds like you can bring just about anything and have a good time. There is even a stock class which really excites me. To be able to run a comp with my YJ would be great. I am in!

Hopefully we can get out there for a play day sooner than later, and it is only an hour drive.

I was at the off road park on Thursday.  They had built two new hills, but the entire area was under at least 18\" of water.  They had two pumps running trying to get the water out so they could get the rock in.  If it does not rain more and they can get a dry surface soon they could make the event date they have established.  If they cannot get the area dry, then they will have to reschedule.  Hopefully Tony will be able to make a decision by the end of this week.

I just spoke to Tony and there are a number of weather and operation issues that impact the weekend event.  His comment to me was that there was still water on the course and if he can get it off the course and a bulldozer in AND there is no more rain this week he will open the event for Sunday as scheduled.  The original hill still has rock on it, but the two new ones do not nor does the new track.  The ground is too wet for rock trucks to get in now so that will be delayed.  Sorry I did not get better news, but that is straight from Tony.

Forcast for that area says 50-70% chances of rain Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with sun finially Friday.  Im gona plan on going down to PA for the weekend- but will check the boards Friday afternoon.  Maybe next time they will have better luck with a little more time.

In this case I\'d say \"no news is bad news,\" and actually having some information before the day-of as has happened in the past is a very good step in the right direction, even if they have not gotten their water issues taken care of.

Thanks for letting us know, Bill.

I\'m sure they must have a backhoe or something that can dig. Start where the water starts on the other side of where you want to work. The bigger the hole the more water it\'ll hold. I guess it is all just a matter of how bad you feel it needs to be done as to the extremes one is willing to go through to accomplish this. The moving of earth is cheap when you have the equipment, rocks cost more. I just don\'t like to spend where it is not absolutely needed.

Post by: MrMindless on June 30, 2010, 09:37:15 AM
in this case, if they want to actually have this succeed, there is no choice - it is clearly an \"absolute need.\"  they have cancelled at least 50% of their events due to flooding...

I haven\'t met bill but since he is aussie lockers and aussie is a sponsor i would imagine he has at least a voice in the issue they might listen to. I would first off recommend a drainage specialist. Naturally that means money. the other two options have already been offered up. Either fill or dig a hole. When you fill you redirect the water somewhere that is lower than the elevation you are adding, may create other issues, when you dig a pit you at least know where the water is going to go. Crazy idea but has anyone offered to come help. I for one am not working and can operate anything with a motor. So i would be willing to go over and see what can be done. Just a thought.

when they were first planning this area 2 years ago, Tony invited some representatives from local clubs out there to scope it and offer some input.  Maybe something could be put together again? I\'d certainly be interested in actually making it work.

Is there enough room to dig a big pond and use the dirt from that to level/grade and make everything drain nice? I would be willing to help out with ideas and running any of the equipment.

The drainage issue needs to be addressed, and every one\'s interest in helping sounds great. I have 25 plus years experience in this, but I can say that insurance and other liabilities are the important thing. You don\'t just go and hop on a backhoe and dig a hole. Drainage needs planning and sometimes approvals.

P.S. You don\'t drive heavy equipment...you operate it.

I completely understand everything you are saying, being the general contractor then the building inspector. That is also why my first recommendation was a drainage specialist. If you are just changing the location of the pooling of water on your own property no permit is needed. Now, if the water starts to be relocated onto property belonging to others or city storm drains then permits and a specialist would be needed. I am also aware no respectable co. is going to let anyone come onto their property and use their equipment. Ins and liability issues. Offering assistance is always a good thing.

This is just a matter where we as a club are offering our help to show our level of commitment to the park. I for one never imagined anyone in their right mind would contemplate for a second letting any of us operate equipment on their property.

We can discuss the topic here on this forum all we want but its pointless unless we make the property owner aware of our willingness to help.

Smike and myself have both done just that, and neither of us have even received a no thank you, let alone a return email or phone call.

I for one am grateful that you have offered assistance. Even though I\'m not a member if you are called upon your offer I am more than willing to help. I myself use this thread as more of a rant to blow off the steam of another event close to home being canceled. Since there really aren\'t that many places close to what is now home. For myself i intend to fix that problem, I\'ve been down to the southern tier 3 times in the last month looking at 50+ acre parcels. So far i haven\"t found quite what i want. My plan is a small homestead with a small private off road park in the back yard. Prob. take another 3 -5 years to bring it to reality but i can live with that.

Jim it was good to meet you. Dave (Explorher4x4) I think I saw you driving around. Glad to see you made it out. Turn out wasn\'t really great but if they decide to promote the next event and it\'s ready for a comp then I think all will work out much better for them in way of people showing up. I have pics and one vid that I will pass along if my phone cooperates with me..
