Info:
We have approval for the date this year! Come one, Come all! Beginers welcome! Bring a friend! This is an event geared towards the first-time or inexperienced 4x4 owner. Its a beginners guide to responsible four-wheeling. We\'ll start the day with a lecture and demonstrations using \"Built-up\" vehicles. Then we set out on the trails and test out all the techniques covered in class. During lunch break we will hold a large raffle, and then back on to the trails. We will all meet back at the large pavilion at days end to answer questions, network and make new friends!
AWARDS TOO!

So come on out and test your skills and your vehicles! We look forward to meeting you!

All we ask from attendees is to have a 4x4 that they don\'t mind getting dirty, and an open mind ready for some new experiences. We can\'t make any promises that there will be no damage whatsoever but we\'re going to do our best to clear the trails of hanging branches to avoid \"pinstriping\" and help you over obsticles to avoid any other possible damage.

We are forming a committee for this event headed by CoraC143 , OllllllO and Fedrusion this year.  Contact them for any specific event details or post questions in this topic for discussion.

Lunch will be available for purchase

Event T-Shirts = $10.00 each

Demo\'s include:
Safe vehicle recovery and winching techniques
RTI ramp
HighLift Jack saftey
Trailside tire repair, and more.

To attend, please post in this thread as an RSVP.

We look forward to meeting you!

We will have door prizes for all that register.  Were hoping for an even bigger turn out than last year of 37rigs!

I\'d love attend!!  :help:  Is there anyone that I could tag a rid with? If by chance you might have two additional seats, I just found out that my fiancee loves to go muddn too!! So it\'d be her & our daughter (6mo old in a car seat) as well. Kim liked it when I told her how Cora & Erik each have their own Jeeps. :D Is there a lot of women is this sport, with their own trucks & what not?

not really.

we occasionally see girls driving their husbands or boyfriends vehicles, but girls with their own 4x4\'s on the trails are few  and far between.

I can say that since meeting Cora, I do seem to notice more women driving on the trails than in the past. could be i just pay attention now.

Come on ladies show these guys how its done!
4x4101 would be the perfect place.

My friend said she will be there in her stock XJ. It might even have a 2in lift in it, if we can shove it in after I get home from college may 12 lol. its just coil spacers and blocks, so I would say the chance of that is pretty good.

About 42 miles south of Binghamton, NY.
Is this an all day thing? Where do we get food or are suppose to bring our own eats. Is there a roadside stand in the middle of the trail(s)?

The event will be catered and may be included in the event cost. We are still working on the food sponsor. This is an all day event, usually ending around 4.

UPDATE

We are cutting some new trails this weekend on some additional land owned by whispering pines. We have limited participation and even more limited time to do this.

We have been given the opportunity to expand the trail network @ whispering pines. This will benefit  4x4101 events as well as  future club and non club wheeling trips.

If anyone wants to help, we need people to clear brush and move cut logs. We are planning to start work tomorrow, Saturday may 1st.

If anyone is interested in assisting contact erik
585-766-7528

Or

President@fingerlakes4x4.org

Thank you

Well, at the very least, it was a nice drive. After having to stop to to re tighten a valve cover, I made it at 1:30. No one around and first time there, I couldn\'t find you guys. Even tried channel 4 but could not raise anyone. Couldn\'t hear any saws, only the tractor working the block next door. No matter. Wish there were trail maps of the place, but I\'ll just have to tag a long next time and be on time. Sorry I missed yous

Sorry to hear that camo.

We were working a piece of property about 4 miles away from the lodge. We left the lodge @ 1:30, so we must have just missed you.
I gave out my cell # because I didn\'t think we could be reached on the cb that far, especially with saws going.

Well I hope you will take the same drive back on the 16th for the 4x4101. The new section of trails is pretty cool, and very shaded.

Charlie, the owner of WP told us that they cut this section of  trails years ago to shoot hummer commercials.

Big holes, some creek crossings, a few hill climbs Lone that wingman christened winch hill, some small mud sections, and some off camber side hilling!

Something for everyone!

There are many more acres available now at Whispering Pines for our event thanks to the hard work of FIngerLakes 4x4 members. There will be plenty of room for ALL the attending vehicles!!

Everyone is welcome to attend, however the terrain @ Whispering pines can become muddy and with some hill sections, that may not work well with a 2wd truck (even locked) your more than welcome to attend and try your luck. Just be safe!

Some of the trails may be tight, and full size trucks may need to take 3 or 4 point turns, occasionally. It will still be a ton of fun. We have one guy in the club, who unfortunately won\'t be at the event, who wheels a fill size Dakota on 40\" tires. We affectionately call him the roadblock, but he does just fine at whispering pines.

yeah I remember the Dakota doing a bit of bush whacking to get in place to tug a full size sideways up a hill to keep it off of a tree during the first 101 event.

so, navigating the trails with a full size takes extra attention of the driver, but it\'s totally doable.

I tjink I\'m coming. The girlfriend came with me on an open event last byear and loved it. Sad to say that I fried the winch on the YJ then and haven\'t replaced it ... yet.
How are set for experienced help? I\'d be happy to lend a hang while my girlfriend wheels the Jeep. It\'s possible for me to bring the \'45 willy\"s also if needed, but that would require some assistance from another tow rig. That way some people could experience the joy of manual steering and drum breaks, LOL. I\'ll check in later for replys,   Jim

CB, fire extinguisher, recovery point/hook Front & Rear, $9 for lunch and an open mind and sense of adventure .... are highly recommended, but not required.

The single most important item above is a tow point. This may have come stock on your vehicle, so take a look. If you do not have one, and you get stuck, we will have to wrap a strap around your axle or your frame. A great tow point is a tow hitch,if you have one, just bring a pin for your receiver and we can use that.

Hi, everyone. Just logged on. New member. Not real good with computers. I\'d like to participate but I was just made aware of this, so no promises. If we do, it will be me +1 or maybe +2 if wife wants to go. Money is tight for us. We have a 2008 Dodge Power Wagon w/G-56 6-speed manual. No lift & my RockRails are not installed yet. This is my daily driver + tow vehicle + camping vehicle +atv/dirt bike pulling vehicle. I can\'t afford body damage but want to wheel. I have been wheeling my whole life with dirt bikes, atv\'s, US Army vehicles, but never in a fullsize pickup that is also my daily driver, & never any hardcore wheeling. I do have PCP diff spiders & a Fab Four rear bumper, F & R lockers, 4.56\'s & a crawl ratio of 78:1, 12,000lb winch, craploads of recovery gear, plug-N-play dual battery setup. I DO NOT HAVE A CB RADIO but have hunting radios. This is on my MOD list. What do you think ???

Will a CB Walkie Talkie That can be set to different channels do?
Also again what about a recommend for a good hotel/motel in the area?

TwinStick: Theres pelenty of room to get a full size through with out body damage, but as I said before you will probably pick up a few scratches. Thats an awesome truck you got, I love powerwagons.

CB\'s are best but if all you have is walkie talkie/hunting radios, bring them, maybe you\'ll be able to use them.

There are plenty of hotels in and around Rochester, I\'m not sure about close to the event, maybe someone more local to that area can chime in.

there are a few hotels/motels in Geneva, which is only a few minutes from the pines (and a couple of them are right on seneca lake) I also believe there is one right at the thru way exit.

As far as stuf to do...... bars and churches is about it

The closest motel is the Red Carpet Inn (315)789-4510 at Exit 42 Geneva.  It is about 4 miles from WPH.  I cannot speak for the quality but it is the closest and I think they have a restaurant, too.

Geneva (10 miles) has 3 or 4 to choose from including a brand new Microtel and a Hampton Inn on the lake.

Lyons (6 miles) has 2 or 3 very small motels on Rt-31 west of V/Lyons.

Hey, I just saw a flyer for this in a local pizza joint.  I know the flyer says bring the family...I\'ve got 2 kids (9 and 6) would this be appropriate for them?

If so I think we\'re in (4 of us total) in a Jeep Commander.

Oh yeah and btw my name is Bill, I\'m more of an SCCA guy but we\'ve got the Jeep and been off roading a few times and had a blast.

There will probably be 3 or so other families there. There is a swing set for them to play on at lunch. The lecture part of the morning will be about an hour long, but it will be broken up with demonstrations and raffle.

Most of the day will be spent on the trails, so if the kids like being in the Jeep, bring \'em!

Kids under 12 ride for free at Whispering Pines.

Glad you can join us, hwc!  What flavor of SCCA?  I did a bit of Rallycross with the Finger Lakes chapter a couple years ago, I\'ve got friends that run SOLO II autocross, and my next door neighbor has, I think, a Class H Datsun 280....

I run Solo II (autocross), I have G Stock Caliber SRT4.

Then I think barring anything unforeseen we\'ll be there Sunday.  One other question, can we get by without a CB? I know I won\'t have time between now and Sunday to get one rigged up.

We should be good with the other stuff on the equipment I saw on the web site.  I\'m assuming the front tow hooks on the jeep will work for the front recovery point and we\'ve got a hitch in the back which I will bring a pin for.

I know the carnage trophy was already awarded, but this may earn runner-up...

I went out to start my Heep this morning and after it fired up, it began gushing (no exaggeration) oil.  Did some trouble-shooting and found that the oil filter gasket blew.  Trekked to the parts store and picked up another, threaded it on, refilled the crank, hit the key, and...

...it did it again.  This time I noticed that the oil filter was deformed like a can of soda ready to explode.

My unofficial diagnosis thus far is that the check valve in my oil pump is stuck.  So, I get to pull the pan and replace the oil pump.

Yea! :banghead:

Ouch, Mark.  that\'s a rough one.

Did you see your oil pressure gauge pegged on the high side? If not, I\'d be worried about a plugged passage, but I hope it\'s not.

It wasn\'t at all.  In fact, it will idle without spewing but as soon as it\'s throttled up a bit, pop!  Gauge didn\'t move from normal.

When I parked it, all was good.  Didn\'t pound on it yesterday, and it was never submerged...

All taken by either a 7 or 12 year old, sooooo if you want anything you may have to crop and rotate and enhance and color adjust and remove windshields/mirrors/half faces (plenty of fingers) etc. But it\'s still better than I would have done.

I had a blast while i was still able to wheel.  Unfortunately, I\'ve been fighting a reluctant wheel speed sensor, and it finally won out, and Jeep (in their infinite wisdom) has the fuel pump running through the same fuse as the ESP.
