Hey all! =) Its been a while since I\'ve been around. Hope everyone is well. I will try to attend this run.  I\'m still running pretty much the same ride as last time ....fairly stock =( But it is still always fun. Hope to see you there.

And of course something drastic has happened. A large promotion for me at work may require me to leave early that day, (going back to the 7-day schedule thing so I may have to work that evening).

If the scrambler is on the road by then, i now might be going along on this one if we get a descent turnout...

I have asked for too much time off from my Saturday job.  I can\'t ask for this one, too.   Maybe after I quit the job next year. . .

I\'ll be there.

So, y\'all mind a visitor coming along? I moved out here from Boston a couple of years ago, but what with a new wife and now a new baby, haven\'t had time to do much wheeling. I\'m ready now to find a club and get back on the trail.

That is Scottie\'s way of saying, \"Yeah you are welcome to join along, and especially encouraged to come to the next meeting to meet the rest of the club and possibly join\"

Not sure if you have noticed, but we do a lot of our wheeling over in Mass!

Thanks, I\'m going to try and make the meeting too. I don\'t mind driving a bit to the trails, just hate to wheel alone (and it ain\'t smart to do anyway!)

The more the merrier, we will be happy to have you join us.

I will most likely be meeting up with the convoy in Palmyra due to the fact that... uh...  this important... uh...  I have some  necessary... ummmm...
oh the heck with it...
cause I can sleep in another half hour...

so is it safe to say showing up between 9:30 and 10:00, I wouldn\'t miss the group? Comming from Farmington, I was just going to take the big road to exit 42, says it\'ll take 34 minutes. If you\'d rather, I could come to Palmyra and meet with you Dave. About when will you be there ready to go? BTW, when did you move to Palmyra?

Re: wimp...

As the president and old man and the guy who always makes every effort to attend as many of the rides and other events as I can... to be there for the club... I guess I can...
... oh what the heck... I\'m just gonna sleep in.

I think my usual commitment speaks for itself anyway.

and I don\'t live in Palmyra...
I moved to where the corners of Penfield, Perinton and Walworth meet, so it is just a left out the driveway, a left at 31F and a right when it ends and I\'m in Palmyra.
Not sure where I\'ll be exactly, but should be there around 9ish.
Title: Re: Whispering Pines: 27 OCT 2007
Post by: Guest on October 26, 2007, 05:13:08 PM
Actually, I\'d sleep in too if I could. Unfortunately, I live a minimum of two hours away, so it wouldn\'t make much difference if I meet at B&N or WP.

I\'ve spent the afternoon doing maintenance and getting the rig ready as I\'ve not really been on a trail run in a couple of years. Plus I got my new bumper and winch mount and had to get them install. The winch solenoid mount is a bit of \"redneck engineering\", but it\'ll work until I can figure out something more permanent.

I had a great time yesterday with only minimal damage (slightly dented fender). The company was good and the wheeling enjoyable.

Post by: smichaelR22 on October 28, 2007, 09:26:32 AM
it was some good wheeling, there was probably a total of about 20 trucks in the park maybe more, and at times alot of stock ish YJ\'s stuck in places they shouldnt have been  :badidea: But still fun to watch.

Hope to see pics of the CJ at its limits climbing out of that insane hole...

It was a perfect day to be out playing, having fun and enjoying being with good people. It was certainly interesting to watch the newbies doing things that were at times exciting and other times just plain scary.

There are also some holes that are becoming a challenge to get through unless you have the right rig. Like the trail that Mike made it through but Dave got stuck in. I think you could probably compare it to the \"Dolly Hole\" of old.

A FUN DAY.

By the way z71 what happened to you?

Great day...

did some teaching, did some learning and soon I\'ll be doing some washing.
I\'m uploading pics as I write this, but Scott or Aaron will have to re-size as I\'m clogging up the pipe with these huge files.

Anyway... it was a beautiful day for being in the woods with only minor damage (yeah... no major damage even in the mud).

The RIT gang was fun to watch but we all agreed college doesn\'t teach much about wheeling... they looked like they were having fun but could use a few physics lessons regarding traction, gravity, power vs. finess and others.

Good times.

One my my co-director\'s brother was on this trip and the first pic is his (his friend\'s Heep)
the other pic pertains to my comments on more lessons needed.
This is something we (TMN) did not witness while we were there.
Jeep tried to go up the hill next to the hole... took passenger wheel over the edge and gravity did the rest.
All were ok... except for a very wet rig.
Who says Whispering Pines is easy???

whooaaa is that the whinny power steering kid?  im glad i at least had the sence to try again when my jeep walked up the side like that.... he must have been in the mode of \"bomb it in 3rd\" which i herd yelled out more than once while standing trail side watching other events.....

now that i re read, i seem to remember wingman almost in a slightly similar situation if it wernt for some TMN lbs on the frontend....

That mud hole looks familiar. I am disappointed that I missed out on this trip. I am gonna be workin on the truck over the winter to make it more trail worthy. Some new tires, front locker, and of course some better tow points. Also, if all goes well I am going to finally have my chance to make it to the first meeting tomorrow night. I look forward to finally meeting everyone.

That looks an awful lot like the place Psycho Steve cemented his nickname.  We thought his wife\'s TJ was gonna flop there but he saved it, while she gasp\'d so loud I think all the quail flew away back at the office.  Luckily she was watching from outside and not in his ear in the passenger seat.

After a long a drawn out discussion today in a design review meeting, i couldnt resist not to bring up that YJ flop pic on the overhead to the team and convey my view on the importance of understaning foolish failure limits when designing component test to failure plans....

Post by: MassiveAttack on November 01, 2007, 01:47:43 PM
I had lots of fun at the pines, thanks!

There were a few things I\'ve been meaning to \"clean up\" after the ride, some questions and whatnot...

1. I was talking to Dave in Palmyra before we left, he said he needed an alignment, so for Dave and anyone interested, here\'s a good deal.
Firestone has something called \"Premium Alignment\" it\'s a lifetime alignment for between $120 and $150. (got mine on sale for $120)
I went to Webster and they were really good to me. The guy told me, lifts, aftermarket parts, doing my own work, and off roading don\'t void the service. He said, \"you can bring it down every weekend if you want.\" I think it\'s a good deal if your planning on keeping your Jeep for any amount of time because it pays for it\'s self after two alignments, as well as protecting your investment in those expensive tires!

2. Someone said something on the radio in the afternoon about how A/T can sometimes be better at clearing in mud than other more aggressive tires. I\'ve heard this before and am interested in talking more about it. Could whoever it was that said that start a discussion in the correct forum so we could share ideas and past experences  with this. :)

3. On the same subject of tires, I\'d like to discuss Saturday\'s conditions and the tires you (those who were there) had and how they performed.

I posted here because I want to talk particularly to those who were there on Saturday. Oh and I want to ask Mike, (I believe, forgive if I\'m wrong) what kind of exhaust was on his TJ?
Title: Re: Whispering Pines: 27 OCT 2007
Post by: smichaelR22 on November 01, 2007, 03:35:32 PM
im going to have to bite my lip and refrain from bashing firestone alignment people, but i do say i just had a 29.99 coupon for the standard 6month alignment service.  it was for a 2wd S10 which i new i messed up the front end putting in coil spacers.  After the third trip and 2 striped bolts off my frame which i was told were already messed up and i was responsible, i walked away...  Maybe this different plan sounds a little better and i just had a moron hopefully.

on the cj, i just us a pice of wood and make it an 1/8\" wider from sidewall to sidewall in the rear.....   :)

Tires: i run 35x12.50 procomp mudds.  I love em, they clean very well in WP mud (usually pretty wet).  My first set of \"real\" tires so dont have much comparison.   O and for you crazy people trying to get me to buy MTR\'s for the scrambler.... i am not paying $515 for a tire.... i have morals.   (40x13.50\"?)
Title: Re: Whispering Pines: 27 OCT 2007
Post by: MassiveAttack on November 01, 2007, 03:49:02 PM
agreed. I have heard so many bad things about Firestone, then theres those who just bash without any reason...Thanks for explaining what happened instead of just \"they suck\". My experence in webster was really good, it\'s too bad so many other places hire retards.

I\'m going to move the tire discussion to tech. I agree too that MT/Rs are way overpriced.
Title: Re: Whispering Pines: 27 OCT 2007
Post by: Guest on November 02, 2007, 12:48:46 PM
Hmm.. I\'ve always just done my own front end alignment with a tape measure. Given the tires and the abuse, it comes out close enough and I don\'t notice any excessive tire wear.
Title: Re: Whispering Pines: 27 OCT 2007

Firestone in Henrietta has done well on my Jetta....

Discount Tire is $500 for the 40\" MT/Rs *with* warranty (as of about a year ago).  where are you seeing $515?  I got my 4 for I think $420 or so from a place in Colorado.  They were the same price (+/-20) as Irok radials, so I figured I\'d give them a shot.

I have run GY Wrangler RTS in 235/75r15, Yokohama Geolandar A/T+II, in 30x9.5r15 and 265/70r17, BFG A/T KM in 35x12.5r16.5, Swamper SX in 38x11.5r16.5, Irok in 39.5x13.5r17 (bias) and MT/Rs in 40x13.5r17.  How in depth would you like me to get?  I\'m pretty sure I\'ve typed it all here before....  definitely before the Great Scottie of 2007.

ill probably be going with the Irok in 39.5x13.5r17 (bias).  i have a bit of time to do some research, i think the $515 was the first thing that popped up on google from tirerack.com

that AMC motor is piss pore compared to the remanufactured one i put in my CJ.  She really chugs out of the hole, but seems happy at 55ish (45 on the spedo) in 2nd at about 3500rpm i would imagin.  Thruway will be rough, it must have 3.55 gears or mayby 3.07\'s   pretty hard on it with 35\"s
